Ok everyone I must once again bring up the topic, of Android in these forums. Before you start to hate on me just hear me out.

So first question is do we still have people currently working on a Android port to the IQ/Expo?

And second isnt really a question but, I would definitely be willing to help people out with testing this or other apps or ports on my IQ. I have alot of free time and I am trying....to learn about making my OWN apps if I ever get so far as to do so.

I don't have any experience to pass on, but certainly would encourage and support (to the best of my abilities) any endeavor to do so.  It would be fantastic to be able to have a dual boot expo/iq, wouldn't it now?

Has anyone started to work on this?  Also, as mentioned by EricGrain, please let's not let this thread turn into a OS religious war.  I'd really like to decide for myself (by using them both, if I prefer WinMo or Android).

Continuing the line of reasoning, I will start looking around for any forums with "similar" lg devices where android is either running and there is a rom, or similar hardware where work to create an android rom is already underway....

Cheers,

initial digging on the internet and I found this project:

http://openetna.com/openetna/about/

seems like a very similar device from LG.  I don't know much about the gw620, but both it and the expo were released around the same time period... both touchscreen with slideout keypad...

I will attempt a post over on their forum and see if (hopefully I don't get my head bitten off) someone is interested in helping us or mentoring us...

What I was debating (and even tried out) was over on XDA they have .CAB files for Android on HD2... Sooooo what I did is tried installing that on my phone... It installed but I was unable to launch anything. Sooooo thought here.....but what if we just found a way to take the coding on that .CAB and modify it slightly to support OUR phones hardware and software?

Of course....If someone is willing to help?..... *cough cough* dark? *cough cough*

Even more promising is that their installation instructions seem to leverage the same emergency download process that we use to flash our phone to newer roms...

It might be worth a try to just jump in, although I am probably not daring enough to try without a lot more research.  This is my primary work phone and cannot blindly risk bricking it at this moment.

If the phone becomes bricked then what exactly happens to it? Out of curiosity

If it's possible to actually brick LG's phones, it's going to be totally unusable (except as  a brick Wink ). Dark's said in the past he's never seen one completely toasted.

That site does look fairly promising. It doesn't appear the gw620 is a snapdragon though, so I wouldn't recommend anyone flashing as is.

If that's got similar drivers for other parts of the hardware, there are droid phones running on qsd boards, so droid should be doable with a little bit of knowledge and effort.

Unfortunately I don't think I have the time or desire to write drivers, especially since I'm likely to pick up an optimus 7 as soon as I can find one  Undecided

That does however mean I can experiment on my IQ  Grin and will try and help out when I can

Well what if we hand that link over to dark? I bet he of anyone here would be able to look it over and see if it somewhat matches our phones drivers or maybe rewrite some stuff and see if he can make it work on our phones... Because If theirs even a remote chance we can get Android on this phone I would try it... (besides the TELUS store we go to would probably replace it cause we got a warranty and their really nice, should it get bricked trying...) But about the Optimus.... TELUS' website has them up for $99 on a 3 year term, checked as of last night B)

I seem to remember Dark saying that wasn't really his skill set. And he's done sooo much for the community already I'd suggest looking elsewhere for someone to spearhead the effort.

Does anyone even know if it's possible to boot from the expandable memory with our phone?

I'm not trying to be pessimistic, I haven't had much interest in 'droid so I haven't really followed the few sporadic efforts/discussions but I do know it's going to be a lot of work.  Undecided

re: the optimus 7
It's been on telus' site since monday, but no stores got stock.
I found a store that had two arrive today, but they were pre-ordered by some guy  Angry

I know if I order online they'll be in all the stores the next day and I'll be waiting a week for shipping ... damn murphy's law Sad

That's going to be the hardest part. As far as other coders in the community, I'm only aware of woodhole and he's got tweaker v3 to worry about Wink

When I finally find one (Monday if the gods are smiling) I intend to kick around here some. It's a lot more "cozy" than xda.

As an aside, I also intend to release the source for monacotorch as I just haven't had any time to add the missing bits and don't see that changing.  Undecided

Who knows though. Maybe woodhole will have some time once v3 is done. Not many registry tweaks have been made since. But I have got my doubts right now to. And I know just what you mean about this being more cozy hahahaaaa XDA just seems so busy and so.....something!
