My sister has the MotoDroid on Verizon. She wanted to upgrade to 2.2 so she can have Flash support. She didn't know how so I looked it up on xda and did it for her. What a pain it was. First you need to download all the files you need. There are six files (7 if you are installing flash). Next you need to downgrade to 2.01, then upgrade to 2.1. Each time you need to enter a program menu while the phone is off and place the need files on the sd card before shutting down. Then you got to download a backup app from the marketplace to the phone and shut the phone off again and; enter the program menu again and; run the nandroid backup. After that you need to create a backup of the current system. Once that is down you load the phone again and place some more files on the sd card and then shut the phone off again. Then you enter the program menu again and run a restore of a backup. The backup will be one of the files that was placed on the sd card. After that you need to install the kernel which is in zip format while still in the program menu. Once that is done you reboot the phone again and that is it unless you are installing flash. To install flash I need to move the flash file to the sd card. Then download another app from the marketplace and use that to install flash. This process took me about 1 1/2 hours. I'm so glad that the process for Windows Mobile is so much easier.

Wow. What a pain. Good story, though. And now you know how. Yeah. But um, I'm sorry but I can't see you getting that 1 1/2 hours back.

Yeah. She swears by Android, but I find it to be too limited. I like how customizable WM is.

First time I flashed another Android ROM, the reboot (including loading the update.zip) took around 6 minutes before all the dust settled and the home screen was usable. Now, mind you, that was on a Tilt - not the fastest thing HTC ever put out.

Any longer than 10 minutes, and I'd be thinking about which step or file I missed.
