I realize this was a sore subject in the past and the thread was locked, but is anyone actively working on running Android 2.2 on an LG eXpo?

The harsh reality is... many companies have abandoned development of Windows Mobile apps in favor of iPhone, Android & BlackBerry (& in some cases even choosing to develop on WebOS over WM).

Although I love (& only WM users can fully appreciate why) Windows Mobile, I would like to use this powerful device to run Android 2.2 when needed to gain access to those apps.

Some discussion has taken place over at XDA, but no movement from what I can tell.  I see Android is running on HD2 and some other WM devices, but nothing for eXpo.

Anybody have (useful) information on this subject?

Thanks in advance.

Much as I hate to say it, I think you may be right reboyer - Android OS does seem to be the new flavor du jour, has a lot of potential by being open source (despite the restrictions carriers put it) vs. WinMo trying to lock down their OS even tighter in Windows Phone 7.

Seems to be a similarity here:

Windows Mobile 2003 = Windows 98
Windows Mobile 5      = Windows 2000
Windows Mobile 6.0   = XP Home Edition
Windows Mobile 6.1   = XP Media Center Edition
Windows Mobile 6.5   = XP Pro

Which, of course, means that:

Windows Phone 7 = Vista   Undecided

EDIT: after reading the article Dark posted the link to maybe it should be ''Windows Phone 7 = Windows ME'' - another abortion of an OS in a misguided attempt to be 'user friendly'.

AFAIK it's impossible to brick your phone running Android, since it's not actually installed on your device, only on your SD card where it runs through Haret.

I'm gonna have to agree with GiODi on that one too.

Windows Phone 7 may be closer to Vista pre-SP1 then.

I think you guys may be right... WinMo might be at the edge of a cliff when winpho 7 gets officially released... I think of it as the UAC from vista honestly Smiley. It would be cool to see what the Expo is capable of; running Android in dual boot.

So are there any takers out there to create the golden Android build for the eXpo?
I'd love to have an option so in 1 yr when windows mobile 7 comes out and is too restrictive, I can put Android on full time.

I'll donate $10 to the cause.

I'm starting development of android for the expo/monaco just have to start with the fun of identifying all the hardware bits.  If any one knows of any locations of whitepapers etc that will help me know what chipsets are all over the device that would be very helpful.  Thanks!

My personal feeling is that anyone asking for money here to do this is doing it for entirely the wrong reasons. I'm just sayin'.  Grin

I have come so far as to get the android SDK and Ecplise downloaded and running. I've got a nice android emulator going with some generic settings, and I figured I'd take the advice of the guys over at XDA and try to make an app or two before messing around with a custom build. Although I'm getting pretty impatient so I might just try anyway. I'd like to make sure I have everything I would need first before starting work on this epic endeavor so as AstainHellbring asked, if anyone can provide info on the phone's inner-workings (or where to get it) that would be awesome.

Spider, to clarify a bit,.. in relation to my comment, its ok to suggest perhaps a donation box for your efforts, hard work should be rewarded where possible.
Though in the last case, it was to be used, to buy the fellow a Expo first, so that he could port Droid onto it for us all to use after.

Entirely for the wrong reasons, to say the least.
