Is it, something recent?

Is the phone brand new?

Have you tried a soft reset and tested, and a Hard reset too might be in order too.

I would remove newest applications first untill it works, or soft reset then rremove apps, and if still no go, I might hard reset it an see if its present right from a clean phone.

Need a bit more information to help I suspect.

Thanks you first, I will give you some information:

On the qwerty keyboard, besides the error keys "a" "u" "d" "i" "f" "o", other keys are ok.

The phone is brand new, never open.

I flashed the newest official ROM for it but still the same.

=> Maybe it's hardware problem. Because I tried many ways to solve the problem. I've used Windows Mobile Phones since 2003 with a lot of devices but this is the first time I used a LG phone so lack of experiences of this phone. Any solution? Plz help me. Thanks for your support!

I kinda suspect, you might have gotten a bad unit.

If it is still doing that after a flash, I would suspect a hardware issue myself, though before we accept that as gospel, wait a bit for others to reply here as there may be something I am missing about this, like is this a North American Expo, or an international version perhaps?

I am assuming the software keyboard works an does not exhibit this weird behavior?

I live in Viet Nam, this Expo is my gift from my uncle, I've just received it yesterday. Original package, everything new but the phone has a stupid thing with keyboard. I have a question: I think I will send it back to US for repairing, is it possible? I mean the AT&T supporter will accept my phone? If they require repairing fee, it's not a big problem. Thanks!

I have no idea about warranty on it myself sorry, good to hear you can handle it financially, just in case.

I would also watch this thread for a bit before returning it, in case someone else here on the forums, suspects another outcome that may fix it.

Was wondering if Dark's Rom would make a difference or not, he may be able to suggest something too yet, so hold on a bit ok  Wink

Just reading over this thread. I have to agree. It sounds like a hardware problem to me.

That's right, it's hardware problem. After all, I've been successful to repair it without sending it back to US. I have disassembled it and found that the keyboard control chips were loose because of the damage. I used the soldering-iron to take them out then reassemble them. Everything is ok now. If somebody facing with the same problem and no more warranty, you can do as I've done with your own risk.

Step 1: Take out the screws (4 screws - 2 each sides) make sure you had taken out the battery, memory card, sim card.

Step 2: Take out the screws (2 screws) near the sim card slot.

Step 3: Use your finger nail to disassemble the cover, it's quite easy.

Step 4: Now you can see the mainboard *NOTICE: you have to turn it up from right side to upper left, SLOWLY because the display ribbon cable is under the mainboard.

Step 5: Use a clip to take out the display ribbon cable socket.

Step 6: Now you can take out all the mainboard, let see around the keyboard circuit here, there is a plastic film cover it. Take it out using your finger nail.

Step 7: There are two keyboard control chips at the upper left and right of the keyboard circuit. That's the problem.

Step 8: If you have soldering-iron, you can weld it with a little little lead.

Step 9: After all, reassemble the cover and put the battery in, power on and check your keyboard. (I have to assemble and reassemble at least 4 times to finish)

Step 10: Put the plastic film back to the keyboard, there are 5 led indicator so make sure you don't cover them.

Finish!  Grin

Thanks all your support and advise, I hope I can help all of you!

Yeah you're right, but time is not my problem. You know that I'm living in Viet Nam and if I send it back to US by FedEx or UPS, it costs me around 1.5 millions Vietnam Dong (VND) (~100USD) for transportation fee. Excluded the repairing fee in US, when it's sent back to me, I have to pay for tax because in Vietnam, import cellphone from other country will cost about 10% of the price of phone. So if I do this way, I have to pay more than 3 million VND and with this money, I can buy a new one and maybe better than eXpo. :p

WOW. Yeah, you were better off fixing it yourself. It just wouldn't be worth sending it out.

I will soon upload the diagram/schematics of LG GW820 here for everyone, I thought it would be something interesting. You will find that the eXpo are very simple inside and easy to disassemble. :p
