Since it’s now an unspoken requirement for our gadgets to multitask, LG and AT&T have teamed up to release the LG eXpo, the first cell phone to have an optional pico projector. The LG Mobile Projector snaps onto the back of the phone and you’re presenting slideshows and online video just like that. The device has a decent projection distance of eight feet. The projector also adds 1.8 ounces to the phone’s final weight which isn’t too bad, but it definitely makes it a little bulkier, which might not be as pocket-friendly as you’d like.
Adding to the list of firsts, the eXpo is also the first phone to feature a 1 Ghz processor in the U.S. This is great for all you serious business types with tons of data to transmit. Now you can get down to business without worrying if your device is going hit an error under the strain. All that processing power should translate into some insanely fast file transfers. This is also the first smartphone to use a smart sensor. An AuthenTec exclusive, the “Smart Sensor” fingerprint recognition eliminates the need for all those hard to remember passcodes and pin numbers. The scanner is located in the cursors for easy fingerprint scanning.
And now for some stats: The slider comes with a full QWERTY keyboard, 5 megapixel camera, and a3.2-inch touchscreen. The device can hold up to a maximum of 16GB with a microSD card. As far as the OS, the eXpo is running Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional, so while there are going to be apps, don’t expect the plethora that’s offered on an iPhone or a phone running an Android OS.
An AT&T exclusive, interested parties can be the first on the block with the cool new business smartphone on December 7. The eXpo is $199.99 after the mail-in rebate. Expect to be signing a two-year contract and buying a minimum $69.99 data plan. The LG Mobile Projector is being sold separately for $179.99.
