Please read before posting. We understand that you need information in order to know what to do, we all started at the beginning just like anyone else. If you ask a question that is already covered here, there is a chance your post will be deleted. Too much clutter is created when people ask the same questions over and over. Hopefully this will help everyone with the simple problems we have all dealt with and keep the rest of the forum uncluttered at the same time. If there is a question you feel needs to be answered but is not listed, send a PM to a moderator and someone will help when possible.

What is the LG eXpo/IQ?
The LG eXpo/IQ is a 3G, touch screen Windows Mobile based smart device with slide out keyboard.
Is it a smartphone?
There is no standard definition of Pocket PC vs Smartphone. It is generally accepted that Pocket PCs have a touch screen and Smartphones do not. This really only matter When you are looking for software. The eXpo/IQ needs PPC software as a general rule but often can run smartphone software.
What is WM6.5?
Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional is the operating system used by the eXpo/IQ.
You will see it abbreviated WM, WM6.5, WM6.5 Pro, etc. Professional is misleading and means that it is designed for touch screen devices.
What memory card does it use?
microSD - any size up to 16g is proven.
LG claims the eXpo/IQ is capable of using the new 32g microSD cards as well. When someone proves this we will update the FAQ, but not until then because the 32g cards are currently only available in Asia.
Can I use wifi?
Yes, proxies needs to be turned off.
Do I need a data plan?
No, to use the eXpo/IQ you do not need a data plan. To use internet features without using a wifi connection or through ActiveSync, you do need a data plan.
Will I get charged for using WiFi?
No, as long as your device does not connect to GPRS or MediaNET, you will not get charged for WiFi. Your phone will notify you with a popup if it tries to connect to either of them. If you cancel it soon enough, you will not be charged. To make sure it does not connect, try disabling GPRS from connecting. Go to the following link for more info:
http://www.lg-expo.com/lg-expo-tips-tricks/stop-data-transfer-but-allow-mms/What is my MAC Address?
Start > Settings > Connections (tab) > Wireless LAN > Station (tab)
What is tethering?
Tethering is connecting a device to a personal computer or laptop and using the device as a modem.
How do I tether? (How can I use my eXpo/IQ as a modem?)
First you will need to change a registry entry Go here for the info:
http://www.lg-expo.com/third-party-lg-expo-applications/expoiq-tweaker/msg1504/#msg1504Connect your phone via USB to your PC. On your PC go to your Network Connections (Windows XP) or the equivalent for your platform. Make sure the phone shows up as a Local Area Connection. (It will say Windows Mobile-based Device as the interface.)
On your phone, go to Start -> Programs -> Internet Sharing
Select USB under PC Connection.
Hit "Connect"
If you connect your phone to the PC using bluetooth, just select "Bluetooth PAN" under PC Connection.
On your PC look at the Status of the LAC and the IP should be a 192.x.x.x address.
Does the GPS use data? Will I get charged for it?
The eXpo uses something called "aGPS". It uses data from the surrounding cell towers to help the GPS satellites more quickly pinpoint your location. This does use data. Use the cab in the following link to disable agps if you don't want to get charged for data.
http://www.lg-expo.com/lg-expo-tips-tricks/gps-satellite-information-app/msg1509/#msg1509Also, as a note, if you use the built-in navigator from AT&T, you will not only get charged for the data, but also around $10 a month to use the service.
What is a CAB?
A cabinet file with a .cab extension. These are actually several files compressed into a single CAB and are used to install software or tweaks on your phone.
How do I install a CAB?
Transfer the .cab file to your phone and click on it. You will have the option to install to the device (the phone itself) or to the storage card. Use common sense and logic here. If it's a shell you are installing you might need it on the phone. If it's a game then the storage card will be fine. You can usually install anything on the storage card that is not phone specific, ie: address book on phone, alarm on storage card.
How do I uninstall a program?
Start > Settings > System (tab) > Remove Programs
Select the program from the list and click remove.
What is a JAR?
A .jar is a Java application or game.
Where are my Java games installing?
In your Java directory. Go to:
Start > Tools > Java
How do I delete a Java program?
Start > Programs > Mobile Java > Games or Applications > Menu (tab) > Delete
or
Start > Tools > Java > Games or Applications > Menu (tab) > Delete
How do I configure Java to access the internet by a method other than MediaNet?
Start > Java > Menu (tab) > Java Options
How do I check available memory?
Start > Settings > System > Memory
What is a tweak?
Usually a CAB that contains a registry edit that "tweaks" the phone. For example making your device capable of ringtones larger than 300kb.
What is a shell?
A graphic user interface (UI or GUI) which allows for navigation through an operating system. The shell already on the eXpo/IQ is what you are using to navigate. The iPhone and HTC devices use different shells and thus have different looks. Your shell can be altered or replaced to imitate other devices. (note: other devices may use different opperating systems in addition to different shells, you can still replace your devices shell with a lookalike but you won't have the same operating system)
What is key mapping?
Key mapping is using software to assign a different action to an already existing key. If I map the thridparty application TaskFacade to my volume up key on long press, TaskFacade will run whenever I hold down the volume up key on the side.
Start > Settings > Personal > Buttons
Currently there are six buttons you can map and they are already in use by other functions. If you choose to change the existing applications mapped to the keys you will loose the original function. There are third part apps out there that can give you more functions.
What is a soft reset?
A soft reset is similar to rebooting a PC. It empties RAM, closes all running applications and resets the device.
The expo/IQ's soft reset button is located under the battery cover, below the camera.
If you are unable to perform a normal soft reset you may also remove the battery while it is still powered up. This will reset the phone, and no data should be lost. This method may or may not be detrimental to your eXpo/IQ so use it only if it is necessary. (data in active programs will be lost if not saved)
What is a hard reset?
A hard reset restores the device to it's original condition and configuration straight out of the box. You will loose anything stored on the main RAM, programs, settings, files when you hard reset the device. A hard reset does not affect anything stored on the storage card or the preinstalled programs in the ROM (except for your settings which it removes). This is good for cleaning off the phone and restoring it to factory condition.
To hard reset the eXpo/IQ:
Go to the following link:
http://www.lg-expo.com/how-to/how-to-do-a-hard-reset/How do I turn off my eXpo/IQ?
Press and hold the Power/Standby button until the dialog pops up on your screen then select yes.
Where is the Start Menu?
The Windows Logo in the top left corner of your screen accesses the Start Menu.
Where is the Settings Menu?
Start > Settings
How do I change my device ID and determine what version of WM I have?
Start > Settings > System > About
How do I calibrate my screen?
Start > Settings > System >Screen > Align Screen
When you calibrate your screen, make sure to use the same amount of pressure you would normally use. The eXpo/IQ not only aligns the screen, but also calibrates the touch sensitivity. A light touch will cause the eXpo/IQ to be more responsive. For info on screen sensitivity check out the following post:
http://www.lg-expo.com/lg-expo-tips-tricks/increase-screen-sensitivity/How do I change sounds and notifications?
Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications
Change the sound, vibration, light flash and duration for phone call, ActiveSync, connections and messages.
Why do I have two entries for every contact in my contacts list?
Because the contacts saved to the device and the ones saved to the SIM are showing by default. It looks like you have double entries when you really don't. You need to configure your SIM contacts to be hidden which takes third party software. It's not a good idea to delete the backups you have stored on your SIM in case you delete one from your main device memory. Go to the following to learn how to hide SIM contacts:
http://www.lg-expo.com/lg-expo-tips-tricks/hide-sim-contacts/ Why can't I play the music or video format fill-in-the-blank?
Because there is a limited number of codecs installed on the device. Look in the Third Party Software section or do an internet search for other Media Players.
Why can't I view the image format fill-in-the-blank?
Because the programs installed do not support that format. Look in the Third Party Software section or do an internet search for other image viewing/editing software.
Why can't I use my MP3 as a ringtone?
You can, however it needs to be less than 300kb in size. Reduce the channels to Mono and chop the audio file down to about 25 seconds or so and you will have one less than 300kb that plays well on the single speaker and until your voicemail kicks in. You can also edit the registry to increase the file size. Go to the following link for info:
http://www.lg-expo.com/general-lg-expo-discussion/ringtone-size-limit/How do I watch videos on YouTube?
There are many ways to watch videos online as there are several third-party applications with this ability built in.
Why doesn't my wallpaper look right?
It needs to be 800x800 24bit and PNG to display properly on the eXpo/IQ.
Go to the following link for info:
http://www.lg-expo.com/how-to/how-to-create-and-set-wallpapers-for-your-expo/How do I see my phone's IMEI number?
Open your phone app like you are going to make a call and dial *#06# and your IMEI number will be displayed. The first 15 digits are your IMEI number. You can also find it on the phone under the battery.
How do I unlock my phone?
Call up your service provider and tell them that you need the unlock code (make up a reason if they ask). They will ask for your IMEI number. You will need to ask them how to get into the unlock menu too.
What is a SIM Lock?
All devices bought from a service provider, for example AT&T, are locked to that service provider's system. You can't use a T-Mobile SIM in a SIM Locked AT&T phone.
How can I make my eXpo/IQ faster?
Install the .Net 3.5 framework.
What is .Net 3.5?
The upgrade for .Net 2.0 which is installed on your eXpo/IQ from the factory. Some programs require the updated framework and it has the added benefit of speeding up the eXpo. You will also see it spelled dotNET because some search engines don't like a period in front of a word. You will also need to change a registry entry to make .Net 3.5 the default version.
