I am looking at getting the Expo but if I am going to pay that much for it, I wanted to know if it was capable of upgrading to WM7 as it will be available later this year.

Has anyone hear yet?

Thanks for your help.

if you're expecting AT&T to make WM7 available for download then you're better off waiting until phones preloaded with WM7 become available. Even if they do, it won't come out the moment WM7 is launched..

OTOH, there may be custom WM7 ROMs become available. That depends on whether the eXpo/IQ meets the minimum hardware requirements for WM7 or not, and whether there's someone in this community/developer community investing the time to "cook" a WM7 ROM or not.

Thanks for the replay.  Yeah, that is what I was thinking too.  I was just hoping someone had heard something about it.

Can the OS at least receive normal updates?

there's an option under settings, but I haven't gotten anything from it yet. Please see my post on the topic.

In order to get WM7 to work on the eXpo/IQ when it is released we will need an official release. The kernel for WM7 is different from WM 6.1 and 6.5. We can easily port 6.5 to a 6.1 device and vise versa, but without a WM7 kernel designed for the eXpo/IQ it won't be possible.

From what I've read of the possible hardware requirements for winmo7 the eXpo may fail in the RAM department. A ZDNet blogger put together what could be a spec sheet for winmo7 and the eXpo would meet the RAM requirements, but I think it would still still need more to run effectively.

is it the case that we have to have a wm7 release for the expo or can it be ported from say the hd2?
