For the most part no, you shouldn't.

Though there are always programs that like to be installed from a PC onto the device like compact flash 3.5, it is usually installed from a pc while a device is plugged into it, though there is a cab file floating around for it, and you will need CF 3.5.

For mostly everything else, it should mostly be all stand alone installs, you download on the device using Wifi or your celular service and install in on the device itself.

Options afterwards, Can sync to google exchange free, Can back up contacts and sms etc to Microsofts Myphone service, the list goes on.

If I didn't hit the area you might be asking about, ask further questions.

Peace

Thanks for the reply WR! Very helpful.

I was wondering what Compact Flash 3.5 was for and why it is that I need it?

It isn't really a big deal because there are other PC machines I can use to do this, but I was just hoping I'd be able to use my linux machine without much hassle.

And as for the .cad files I keep seeing around this forum as well as ROMs... are these files downloadable and able to install with the device alone as well?

No worries and most welcome,

CF3.5 allows for higher level eye candy in programs that have things like menu animation for example.

The "Cab" As in Cabinet files, are exactly as you think, they are programs that can be installed on the device, and stored an saved on a storage card for future installs as well.
They are everywhere, from the built in marketplace, to places like FreewarePocktpc, which has a market too called Openmarket, mostly free stuff.

Sadly, we don't have any ROM's for this phone, Yet...We're looking an hoping that LG gives us some kind of update, then we can begin in that area.

Hope that helps you some, If theres any other things you need to know or find out, just keep asking, I'll try an help with what I know.

Peace

You may have issues with the LG updater program. There were some Incite users that have Linux that couldn't get it to work. They had to find an xp or windows 7 computer to flash roms.

Wow Thanks WR. You've been most helpful. Can't think of anything else at the moment.

As i mentioned before. I'm not too worried since I have some machines with a windows OS on it that I have easy access to. I'll post back again once I get my phone and try installing the the updater program to let you all know if it works or not. (Thanks Dark for the heads up on the updater program)

I'm kind of new to linux so I'm not sure how far ubuntu has come as far as runing .exe install programs/files. So far everything has been pretty simple and very much like Windows as far as installation of programs goes. I'll most likely have to find some package for the install which i doubt exist but maybe the ubuntu forum people can help me get it working on my machine.

Thanks so much to both of you guys! I'm expecting my Expo on tuesday (hopefully it'll come monday...) I'll post back with an update on how it works with Ubuntu.

Again, you are welcome Wink

Can't wait to hear how it turns out for you too.

Btw, check my signature for a link to "Woodholes" Tweaker Program, It has most of the tweaks we have all gathered and been made into a fancy little tweaker program, otherwise the cab files an registry tweak list would be quite long already lol.

As well keep looking through forums, third party apps fourm has some neat add ons.

Ok peace out
