Hello Everyone. I was bored and thought I would start a lil discussion about my likes and dislikes on each platform (Dont even get me started on iPhone).

First of all I want to make clear I like both a lot! I am not here to begin a massive argument, I just want to see how you feel bout the two.

Now, pretty much I have been using a Android HTC Hero, while my IQ has been away for about 4 weeks (sad I know). The Hero I have is right now using Android 2.1. So pretty much to clarify, I am not talking with no experience, i have had ample time to enjoy each so I would say its pretty fair.

Windows Mobile 6.5/6.5.3
~~Pros~~
-Extremely customizable, so many options for how it can look and run.
-Full user control. You can make the phone do most anything you choose, and you aren't      locked down in anyways, or limited.
-Mobile powerhouse. Windows Mobile phones (such as ours truly Wink ) have a lot of power under the hood, you can do so much stuff on these that would make other phones stager.
-Some pretty nice Windows aspects. What I like here is how you can tap the little icons on the task-bar, and have a small window pop up with more cool stuff, like WiFi signal, new SMS etc.
-Cut,copy and paste system thats unobtrusive, and works. The way Windows Mobile handles this is so easy, fast, effective and very useful. No complaints here whatsoever
-Sub menus and smaller menu boxes. Though some probably hate this, I like how on our phone, you can tap and hold say a file and a small menu appears showing you stuff you can do such as copy and paste. But what I really like, is instead of covering the screen with a menu, it has a little panel, that I find nice and doesn't get in the way of anything.
-Wide array of phones, that even though out of date, still have mad power! I think that explains itself.
-Loads of freeware, and applications/support all over the internet! Again, enough said.

~~Cons~~
I will keep this brief as much as I can.
-Unreliable. Sometimes the OS just doesn't want to do a certain thing, or doesn't want to run, or overall freezes up on you.
-Not enough 3rd party support. This is due to the newer phones coming out I know but still.
-Not enough Microsoft support. (Same reason as above)
-Very few applications overall, worth the time.
-Lacks good modern games.
-Not extremely finger friendly. This is somewhat fixed in 6.5.3
Other stuff I am probably forgetting right now.

Android 2.1/FroYo
~~Pros~~
-Fresh, clean visuals and animations.
-Updates and Google/3rd party support.
-Many capacitive touch screen phones available. Personally I dont mind either, they have pinch to zoom, we have precision.
-A plethora of applications and growing.
-Open source, customizable, and fun interface with widget support.
-Smooth, and fast web browser with FULL capabilities.
-Plenty of power for apps, and very high user control options.
-That little sliding notification panel Tongue
-Its FREAKING GOOGLE! Who DOESN'T love them?! Hahahahaa
-The green robot dude. Okay hes epic, now back on topic.
-Included tethering over WiFi (In FroYo...)

~~Cons~~
-Not as nice applications, and treatment. What I mean here is take a look at Facebook for iPhone, then Facebook for Android....enough said. iPhone doesn't deserve a full 5 star treatment all the time but what ever.
-Takes from Apple, with menus that obstruct the entire screen. I hate how these work.
-Stable, but not perfect. Android still has some bugs and can still stop on you but its not to common from my time using it.
-Yet to be perfected WiFi. Every single mobile product I have had has SOME problem with WiFi....Its something I dont think anyones yet mastered.
Some other small stuff, that I wont bother to put in, cause this is long as is Tongue

Well thats all I have got right now. What have you guys got to say about my lil long list?
And what is your opinion on it. Would you say ones better then the other?

Interesting topic.

My wife got me a surprise for my birthday last week... A rogers captivate.

She doesnt quite understand the difference between windows mobile (or phone) and android. That's not to say it wasn't a great gift. It was fantastic. Just different to what I am used to with WM.

Anyway to add my two cents...

WM feels more powerful than android. Having a long head start on android, WM community apps are much more advanced than their android counterparts. In fact after using the captivate I really miss some great apps from my Expo (FPSeCE, remote desktopping, coreplayer, mymobiler, activesync). I really really miss activesync. I loved being able to share my computers internet connection with my expo while i was at work.

What I love about the captivate: while i miss the precision, the capacitive screen is pretty nice. apps are generally prettier. google apps are terrific (skymap kicks ass). The phone looks cool.

What I don't like about the captivate: The apps drawer is a clone of the iphone. Not being able to share my computers internet connection. The shameful feeling I get using it instead of my Expo.

Thats quiet the nice gift there Smiley

I once again have to agree with everything you said. Android is good, and I wouldnt have to much a problem had I choose Android, but theirs still those little things I just love about Windows Mobile. I am STILL stuck with my HTC Hero loaner phone, and....well....much as I thought I would never say it....I miss my Helen! (I named my IQ Helen...thats how awesome it is Tongue)

Thanks for your input to btw Smiley

Also am I really not the only person to hate resistive touch screens? i mean honestly the IQ has a pretty nice one, better then some resistive ones for sure, but I really REALLY enjoy the precision that resistive touch offers that the new phones simply can not.
