Hi!

I consider buying LG eXpo, but as I'd have to order it from the USA, I have to be quite sure this is a WM phone I want Smiley So I'd like to as some questions:

1. Can the phone buttons be assigned as short-cuts to various functions and/or programs?

2. Is it possible to use the fingerprint reader as d-pad (tapping for OK) or simply as cursor keys?

3. What about auto-brightness adjust, does it work well? Can it be tweaked?

4. Is there a tint to the LCD? For example I had SE Xperia X2 and it had quite annoying green tint Sad

5. What about camera quality indoors?

6. Does the phone work as USB disk without any special system drivers? (USB mass storage mode.)

7. I suppose USB charging is present Smiley

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hello Biges, and welcome to the forum. We're glad to have you.
I'll try to answer some of your questions:

1. Can the phone buttons be assigned as short-cuts to various functions and/or programs?
Yes, but not all of them - the End Call key, for example, cannot be re-mapped.

2. Is it possible to use the fingerprint reader as d-pad (tapping for OK) or simply as cursor keys?
Yes, and it works very well, but you press in the optical scanner for OK, not just tap it.

3. What about auto-brightness adjust, does it work well? Can it be tweaked?
It works very well and is fast in its response to changing environments. As far as "tweaking it" goes, um..... you can turn it off if you want to.  Smiley

4. Is there a tint to the LCD? For example I had SE Xperia X2 and it had quite annoying green tint Sad
No tint, the LCD is very clear and colorless.

5. What about camera quality indoors?
Camera quality is good indoors, and camera responds quickly to changes in lighting. Flash is very bright.

Quote
6. Does the phone work as USB disk without any special system drivers? (USB mass storage mode.)
I always use a USB adapter for my micro SD card to transfer things - maybe someone else here can pitch in on the drivers question??

7. I suppose USB charging is present Smiley
Naturally, although it is a trickle charging - about 3 times slower than charging the phone from a standard power outlet.

Hope that helps in your decision making. The eXpo is a great phone, and one of the best to ever run Windows Mobile, in my opinion.

I'll chip in about the USB mass storage mode, it's not there by default. You can access it via USB through Active Sync or Windows Mobile Device Center. There is a free app to access your memory card called WM5torage available here:

Hope this helps you decide.

@RogueCheddar

Thanks for the welcome and for the answers.

As for the backlight, there is an application for HTC TP2 which actually adjusts the brightness intensity according to light, i.e. light response. On the other side, I read Acer M900 has too high polling frequency, so the light fluctuates too much.

Too bad about the USB mass storage, that it needs an extra application. For example X1 can do this without such software (or it is integrated).

Anyway, it is nice to see such thriving community. Certainly +1 for watching eBay for an eXpo deal (however with seller willing to send the phone abroad).

If I may add a question - any persistent problems with eXpo I should be aware of?

Hi Biges,

The light polling for the sensor on this phone is nice, I have never seen it flicker in 7 months usage, always bright enough for the situation, though sunlight will over power it.

The worst persistent problem or the only one that sticks out in my mind, is it touchy about a stable WMDC connection, some have issues more so then others.

I myself sync my stuff with Google and Microsofts Myphone service, So i don't need WMDC to sync on my desktop and removed it for best connection on my system.

Hope you score a phone an have a blast with it.

Peace

Thanks for the additional info.

Maybe a lame question, but where notification LEDs on eXpo? And can they be changed? Like I don't want red one for SMS notification, I'd rather it be green.

Edit: I'v found it should have one notification light, but that it works kinda badly, not like on HTC. So how does it work? Will it signalize unread messages/unanswered calls until the phone is manually woken up?

Thanks

Yes kinda lol, I know sounds odd.

Its not like HTC notification light at all, yes it does flash if there is a pending notification, however, it only does it when the screen is on at first, then once it goes to into sleep mode, it flashes for like ten seconds at every minute marker from there on.

It works mostly, kind of lol.

I know its capable of other colours, though about changing it to another for sms notifications, myself I dont know sorry. I suppose its possible, but may be an effort to get done.

WR

Edit to add, Sorry, the light is located in the ear piece speaker grill on the far left, its fairly bright too.

This "first" is when the phone wakes up after receiving a message or call? Or when manually activated?

It makes even HTC Sense!

(ha, ha, couldn't resist Smiley )

So it is the first case. Not too tempting, but I think it can be lived with.

lol  Wink

No, It's doable easily.

There is a cab file on the forums here, for Re-Remind, its easier to get through the Openmarket App and download an that program allows you to set a ability of being reminded after initial event notification. \It can be set for different events that occur on the device, and unselected for others as well, nice program.
