Hi!

I'm rather confused how does the warranty system work in the USA. My idea was pretty simple - new and even used eXpos sold on eBay has to come with a warranty card and/or proof of purchase usable for a possible return (reclamation). It is how the system works in Czechia, for example you got phone from O2/T-Mobile/Vodafone, you don't need it and you sell it, pack it with a confirmed warranty card and/or original invoice and the buyer can either apply it through the operator or directly with the phone manufacturer.

Now there are sellers on eBay, but when I ask them, if the phone comes with warranty card, they either do not reply or answer no. I even got this answer:

"the phone doesnt have a warranty card because the warranty would be through AT&T"

This would indicate I'd just send the phone back to AT&T, but I need some paper for this anyway, don't I?  Huh

Hmmm,..

Here in N/A, we use Till receipts as Proof of purchase(POP), no warranty card to speak of other then that.
If you can prove you own it, and where you bought it, that usually determines your warranty eligibility.

Usually, once a phone is sold, it is covered by the carrier an the manufacturer to a point, the carrier may swap a unit or refer it back to the manufacturer and still swap a new unit to the customer.

However, in this case, your looking at, Someone else buying one and selling it to you, then you would prob get the till receipt and if you needed service would be directed to send it to a authorized LG outlet/dealer type of thing, as it's no longer being used on the carrier it was meant for.

So, what you need is "POP" Proof of purchase, it will show the date an location on it and will allow the manufacturer to determine if, there is a warrantable product in front of them or not.

So if one is sold to you with a (POP) you may be able to get it serviced under warranty if needed at a LG outlet, if no (POP), You would be responsible for all costs.

Last thought, Phones, Cell phone, are a pretty personal item, there are many levels to one, from it working correctly out of the box, to did it have a shortcoming the manufacturer ignore or not etc... Then you have what is ever happened to it since it was removed from the box to contend with as well in buying one second hand. (Then if overseas, get it shipped back to a authorized repair depot an damages out of pocket if they decide not to cover the warranty)

To be honest, I have refused phones, where the dealer takes it out of the box originally, I know I am twisted, but if someone is going to break it in, I AM. Cheesy

I respect fellow like yourself that search out a phone like this, I do, though if you can afford it, buy it new off of a dealer/carrier that will ship it to you, an BE covered with a real POP in your hand.

If second hand imo, All bets are off.

JMTC

Peace

Thanks a lot!

So if I buy the phone via eBay, is the digitally generated POP enough? I mean the one created by PayPal. Or I'm better off by insisting on a paper invoice?

Btw, I bought my current HTC Kaiser as slightly used from Britain and it has been OK since.

I am not sure about Ebay an their policy, though the only one that counts, is what LG thinks.

Maybe drop a couple quarters calling them an see what they can offer, maybe we all can get some idea about it from the horses mouth.

I would hate to see you have issues, after getting it an thinking we had a hand in it, so give LG a call an see what they will offer over it in information.

Do tell us what you find out, now you got me a bit curious  Cheesy

Your purchase from ebay will have nothing to do with warranty. The date that counts is the original sale date. If you purchase an eXpo that was originally purchased in December, your warranty expires in December. The original sale date can be tracked by both LG and AT$T from IMEI and serial numbers, but they will probably not give you any helpful information, they will use that information for themselves.

That's what I think.
But there is a question, if I need a POP to claim a warranty or just send phone back to AT&T or LG and tell them to check the sale date themselves. Because for some strange reason sellers on eBay do not provide this information and I don't know local N/A customs in this regard.

Any warranty claim for you would probably start with a phone conversation with LG tech support.
