I'm on AT&T and this phone has little to no support from them. As mentioned in another thread the people over there are clueless.

i had a phone call with att before once, and i had a question for the eXpo when i had my Fuze, and the guy didnt even know wt the eXpo is, and that was like 2 month after it came out already  Grin

.. reminded me of a 4 year college grad student as a new hire at work, couldnt mesure a part with a tool .. couldnt even think of using a measuring tape Cheesy

@igothacked: since you're still stuck with an AT&T contract with early termination fees, what did unlocking it do for you?

I didn't do an early termination. I got the unlock code off ebay by giving my seller my IMEI.

I think Rogue was asking how you benefit from having it unlocked since you are still under contract to AT&T. The main benefit I see to unlocking a phone is that when you travel you can buy pre-paid sim card instead of paying AT&T's outlandish roaming charges.

That makes sense VanillaGorilla, but since so many seem so incredibly keen to unlock their phones despite being financially locked into a contract I though surely there must be more to it than roaming fees.

This question kinda came up in a thread, and I thought it should be a Poll to give everyone an idea of the amount of users from each camp here on the forums.

Peace out

AT&T for me and Dark I know what you mean about no support from AT&T most of the reps I have talked to either have no nothing about it or never seen it and question how i got one(its especially fun when I go to Bestbuy and they try to sell me a phone and they ask what phone I have now).

Im on AT&T as well. And it is super sad when you go into a corporate store and they have no clue that they even had that phone. I asked once to a rep if they had it (before I bought it) and they said it was just a rumor and that it wouldnt get released (something about too many bugs and too much $$$ to make). A week later i'm in there again (cuz my bro permanently locked his SIM) and the guy couldnt believe I had one. So that explains the low support and the lack of updates (i assume).

It is funny. When I went into one of these stores I was asked what phone I had and the sales person asked what network the phone was on. They didn't even know they had the eXpo on their own network.

It reminds me of my experience with MetroPCS. The Reps were clueless about everything (except how to pay your bill). I find it strange that such a device isnt on their usual books. Its a powerful device.

Well the phone was nearly impossible to get up until about two months ago. In February you weren't able to find it in stock anywhere and the phone had only been out two months. Combined with the fact that AT&T hasn't really promoted this phone well and was pushing it toward business customers at first; it doesn't surprise me that these reps are clueless. Well, more clueless than usual.

FYI FOR AT&T USERS

AT&T upgrading their network - how it may affect you:

I had been having trouble connecting to 3G, staying connected to it, or getting much speed out it the last 2 days straight. Last night I finally lost all data connectivity, period. Could call and text, but zero data. After 4 HOURS of this, I finally got 2 bars of EDGE network, and did not get 3G speed back for another 6 HOURS.

I called AT&T about this - a bit upset - and after going through several people finally discovered they are quietly upgrading their network to handle the upcoming "3G+" data traffic (AT&T's version of Sprint's "4G" - 8-12 Mbps down/3-5 Mbps up).

The bad connection and temporary data blackout was because they are essentially taking towers down one by one and retrofitting them, and they finally got around to the towers near me. This will probably go mostly unnoticed in metro areas with lots of towers (if they haven't finished those areas already), but in more suburban or rural areas, you'll likely see the kind of issues I did.

Fortunately, it was only temporary. 4 hours dead & 6 hours EDGE from 10pm to 8am one night isn't too bad at all, unless you're obsessively checking your connection every 10 minutes (guilty).

If that's the price for moving up to the kind of data speeds our dragons were built for, I'm more than happy to pay it!

Thanks for the info RC. Now I'm getting a little excited. I can't wait for 3G+ speeds.
