Not in that sense no, I will grab a HTC WP7 when their available, but I will keep my IQ as well.

I can't see leaving WM, its too much like an old friend, an will still have a place with me either as my main line or one of my extra lines.

Kind of like hanging onto Windows 98 an Windows 2K if that makes sense.

Love WM, and super intrigued by WP now, it seems like a strong OS,.. though without our apps an tweaks it may never replace but compliment WM for my usage.

In time I guess it will, but its going to take a long time I suspect before I don't use WM anymore.

I think I am with you...

The more I see of the OS the more I think that MS really hit a home run here.

The only problem I have at the moment is that my Expo really does everything I need it to do and more. I am not ready to give up the ability to tether just yet and I can see how they can improve the office integration from office mobile 2010.

I can't justify locking myself into a contract for eyecandy.

I think I will wait and see how things develop before I jump in.

Yeah it really is nice. I would like somebody to hack it so you can post a background image behind the live tiles.

Maybe an automatic background switcher that uses the bing mobile pictures.

Say, that would be cool indeed.

Like that thinking I do.

I'm with you guys on this. I will probably be carrying around two phones for a while. Just can't give up WM just yet. I really thought WP7 was going to be a dud months ago, but now I'm stoked to see it in action. I'm sure in time people will come up with ways to customize WP7 such as the background switcher app that you mentioned keithyv.

Dark,

That's the kind of thing that worries me a bit at the moment...

Will people be able to hack the phone? It was easy on windows mobile because we have registry access by default. I am worried that windows phone 7 may prove to be a hard nut to crack and modding our phones may be more difficult than we anticipated.

Their zune players are pretty well tied down and given that they have incorporated a consumer (zune) client in the phone it will be in their best interest to keep it locked down as much as possible.

Before I jump in to WP7 I need to know whether I will be able to enable tethering even if the carrier rom has it disabled by default.

I need to know that I can eventually sideload apps.

I need to know that I can have some version of file explorer for the phone.

I need someody to confirm that I can replace the internal storage with a larger card if neccesary.

I need to know if the number of different phone manufaturers is going to result in os fragmentation similar to Android (ie some apps work on HTC and not on LG).

Accordingly, I am going to give it a few months before I jump in (if at all)

SD cards can be upgraded, though a hard reset is required from what i have seen. AS well, it has to be a class 4 card nothing less.

Fragmentation will be an android thing as MS has made sure that they are in charge of updates an that was the real reason, no one else could skin it with things like HTC's Sense etc..

SIde loading, is a pain is the keester really, what if, its all in one place, no hassle no fuss, just log in an re-download your stuff.

Copy, cut an paste is coming in 2011 for documents etc..

No need for a file explorer as the gyst of the phone is to categorize things things automatically for us, Things like pictures, music an documents will fall into their respective categories an be handled by the os, you will have the option of syncing with sky drive where you can manipulate the items further.

Tethering, was a go at one point, though at this point it seems the carriers are the biggeset impediment.
(May be a carrier issue now...)

I for one, Welcome our new overlords of mobility lol, as long as I don't have to give up WM yet lol.

Yesterday, while reloading I was thinking how refreshing this os will/might be, I mean, no searching for specific Cab files on servers or our pc's etc, or updated ones,  they will be on/in it or from one or two sources like marketplace.
No need for tweaks as we are not battling carriers bloatwares and such  it will be as MS intended it to be in their vision, no more, no less. If you don't like the extra tiles, turning them off seems to be the key.

I can see this flying quite well, may be challenging at first to give up these things of tediuos installs an tweaks and be more user friendly.

Lol,

I actually like to hunt down obscure cabs from the dark little corners of the interwebs...

I understand what you're saying WR, but still being able to tweak things is important to me. Microsoft have done a terrific job in creating a compelling OS is just I am pretty sure there are some things I would like to be able to change if I wanted to.

I can definitely say that based on a review of what I have seen so far WP7 >> Android for me.

It just comes down to is WP7 suitable for powerusers?

 Cheesy

Its all about, Less stop an stare, an more glance an go...

It may work for many, but your right, maybe not power users as you mention.

I can say this though, At least its not a bunch of dumb icons that do nothing with a back button Cheesy Cheesy

Remember there are two versions of WP7 and most of what I've seen so far is the consumer oriented version. They want to have a hit for the holidays and that means personal use, the business oriented devices will come, but probably not until Q1 2011. That's when we'll find out if WP7 can satisfy the geeks. But right now I can see carrying WP7 for my personal phone and keeping my eXpo around to handle the heavy lifting when I'm working.

Theres two camps?

oh my, that ought to make things fun later down the road, I wonder if its being held back for the new SoC Snapdragon an Hummingbird?

It seems this first batch of WP7 Handsets are using the same SoC(65mm) we have in our phones now an not the newest version(45mm).

Always interesting MS is.

Two version of WP7 sounds interesting. I may just have to wait for V2 to come out, especially if the hardware is going to be better.
