I am on my 3rd Expo since January 2010.  All due to phone starting to respond slowly, then freezing up altogether.  I got on the phone AT&T and they walked me through resetting it, then they had me erase everything on the phone to get it back to original.  I took out the SD card and didn't re-install any applications on this 3rd "refurbished" phone they sent.  Even tried a new battery.  It will work about 3 weeks, then starts freezing again.  It's SO frustrating!!  I thought it was the touch screen, but from what I'm reading here it's more an operating system issue??  Can anyone please tell me how to fix it?  I'm not technologically savvy, so I need someone if possible to walk through it step by step?  I LOVE the phone, but just can't get past this freezing issue and don't want to bother with AT&T support again.  THANK YOU!!!

No, they have sent me 2 replacements.  Same issue with both.  Anyone have this happen and been able to rectify the problem?

Hi Luvher, Welcome to the forums Smiley

Yes, I would agree with you, its the crappy stock ROM that the phone comes with.
The forums can help, though, you will lose the LG Idles today screen, and We suggest to also remove the LG text messaging for best results.(This can be done with the Tweaker app listed in here later, the option is, "Enable threaded text messaging") Also, if the phone is ever to be returned again, you will have to flash back to a stock ROM before returning it.

ROMs are the operating os and related software all rolled into a package, and flashed on the phone in a complete show more or less.
You will need to back up your contacts an any pictures you have on the phone as the entire memory is wiped when you flash a custom ROM. For this type of back up, we suggest Microsofts MyPhone service, which can had through a link here MyPhone cab Download this an install the cab file onto your phone an register an use this service to back up your contact, pictures etc.. To install a cab file, either download it directly onto the phone, then use File explorer on the phone to click it, or onto your pc an transfer it over an doing the same action with the phones file explorer. Save a copy of this cab file on your storage card for fast access after flashing a new ROM an restoring your contacts etc.

Then the rest is taking care of the ROM an Flashing. Darks Dragonstorm ROMs can be found here...Dragonstorm ROMS then choose one of the latest ROMS for your phone, be it a Expo or a Canadian IQ.
Download the ROM.
If your on Vista, you will want to turn off User Account controls on your pc, Select show hidden files in windows folder properties on your pc too..Install The ROM on your pc by right clicking an running the file as Administrator, always as admin.
Use the Data cable that comes with your phone, plug it into your pc, then before plugging the cable into the phone, make sure it is turned off, then slide open the keyboard an hold down the space bar an plug it in.
It should show, Emergency download on the screen an the Battery charge light should be a solid green.
(Please note, your phone should have a minimum of a full charge prior to doing this.)

Then on the installer on your pc, click install, it will not find the phone an offer to install a USB driver for it, let it do that, an after its settled, try clicking install again. It should go from there. Sometimes it closes the installer app, this is why you want Windows to show hidden files, as the installer will be located in one not normally shown here... Example....C:\Mycomputer\Windows\Users\Allusers\LGmobileEAX...

After its flashed, unplug it from your pc, let it fully boot up, an go an Hard reset it, not reset it, Hard reset to clear memory as some things can be left over an cause issues from the older ROM, this is found in StartMenu/System/Clear Storage/Internal memory only.
After hard resetting it, you should be good to go to start setting it up the way you might like,...

You will also want the Tweaker app from here Tweaker app, also read up on it a bit to grasp why you need it in the first couple posts. As it adds back default threaded text messaging an missing sounds an notifications that are not available with out it. As well as other options listed in that threads post.

It's pretty hard to explain everything in one shot here, an this will get you going on a Custom ROM, that fixes a lot of the issue from the Stock ROM, this new ROM also is much newer an nicer then the stock one as well.

If you have any questions an or concerns, post it up an one of us will do what we can to help you.

Peace

WR

Wow!!!  Thank you so much for taking the time to post all the info.  I'll have to print this out and try it.  I've actually never even hooked my phone up to my computer believe it or not.  So hopefully with your instructions, I can figure it out.  I just hope I don't do some irreperable harm to my phone and then not be able to fix it.   Smiley

Most welcome, hope it helps you out some. Smiley

For more reading on it, check out the ROM forums here too.

Anyways, I hope you get the most out of your phone as in its stock form, it really is hard to love.

Have fun an enjoy your tweaked phone.

One more question:  all my contacts are stored on my SIM card, and I only have a few pics since I deleted them all when I exchanged phones.  So not sure I really need to back anything up??  Should I take the SIM card out when I do all this or leave it in?

Thank you!

Hey, as WR said, welcome to the forums! We are all glad to help people out with the phones on here so your among friends Smiley

As for the SIM card, You shouldn't have to back up your stuff on their or take it out, but if you want to go on the safe side, it doesn't have any effect really.

Enjoy the forums, also if you have problems flashing then theirs a step by step instruction list here once again...

This happened to me too.  I tried a soft reset, a hard reset, pushing 3 buttons at once, letting the battery run out, etc.  Finally I had to send it back to LG for repair.  It cost me $70 but it now seems to work.
