Topic: Netfront browser expired how can I change to IE default for Media Net etc?  (Read 1854 times)

I have an LG expo with Windows Mobile 6.5 and NetFront Browser is the default for apparently all of my apps, links, weather etc. The phone came set up this way. Now, it seems Netfront was a Trial Version and expired last Monday Nov. 30th. My Media Net, Weather app, and other links will not open; when clicked on a message pops up "Function not Available, The trial period has expired. Thank you for trying Netfront browser."
I've searched all over the web including this forum and did find a cab file to download. But it only fixed the Weather app to default thru IE. I also tried a RegEdit download and it didn't work. I see others saying to update to a new Netfront browser, but it will expire in May 2010. I can't see having to go thru this again in 6 months. Is there anyway to delete Netfront completely from the phone and set IE as the default browser to all of it?

I had this problem on the Incite v10x firmware, but not with the v10i firmware. It uses an older version, but still has the same features. I made a cab for it. I'm not sure if it will work properly on the expo since it originally came from the Incite and have yet to receive my expo to test it. I will post the cab anyway. Here is the link:

EDIT:
I removed the link since I just got my expo and tested it. The cab will only work properly on the Incite.

Last  time I used netfront was that just for wap browsing years ago. Are you saying that IE did not come with the phone or that you decided to see what this netfront does. When I get my phone do I have the option to install a browser cab of my choosing or pick between the two browsers that came preinstalled to do my lets say online banking.

IE comes standard on the phone it is just not the default browser, NetFront is. Also you can install whatever browser you want to the phone, but not all browsers are free of charge. A lot of people like Skyfire and Opera. Personally, I'm a fan of NetFront and don't like the mobile IE.

Just got my expo and learned that the cab I provided doesn't work on the expo. It will only work on the Incite.

I'm curious as to where you guys are seeing this NetFront browser. IE was default on my eXpo and that was the only browser I had until I installed opera and skyfire.

So they install a time limited browser on the Expo an it expires before the phone is really even out?

Looks like they didn't include it in the final version. At least I can't find it on the AT&T version. I just installed one of the concept ones that has an expiration date.

I got my phone after Dark's. I see, My phone is a final version from At&T, Dark you chose to install the trial Netfront browser. Okay that clears that up

So, then early adopters get screwed being stuck with this Netfront browser?

I'd raise a stink an demand a new one imo.


That is truly unfair to their customers.

Strange, so when you do a hard reset (clear storage) in the system menu and restart the phone from firmware you get Netfront?

Anyhow, saw this online:

Make a sprite backup after patching so in case you need to do a hard reset, you won't have to redo the regedits.

You'll need a registry editor like PHM regedit to make the fixes.
