Does anyone know if either the phone or Telus are blocking ports?

I have a couple of web applications I am trying to run using this phone but have found that if I use Port 8081 I can't connect. If I change to port 8080 I can successfully connect. None of the other ports I have tested have worked.

Any ideas or assistance would be most welcome.

Might be a shot in the dark but you may want to look into this...

I've been developing on WM platform for some time and have not run into this problem thus far (not port blocking on the device anyway). The one thing I have noticed with WM 6.5 vs WM 6.1 is that I've had to install web certificates in order for my apps to work. Something I didn't have to do with WM 6.1

It be nice if these things had an event log built in but as far as I know they don't. It make a developers life so much easier!

atleast thats the gyst i got, maybe try a call into Telus data department and ask flat out.

If i see that post again or more info i'll repost it here.

I'm running multiple open ports on one of my test servers and I have yet to run into a port I don't have access to. It tends to be harder to configure on the server than the device as I've never had to do anything on the device other than force the specific port I'm trying to address through ie: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:8081 (the 8081 being the port).

Now keep in mind if it's the device's IP address that he's trying to force to a particular port than that for sure won't work but most if not all apps tend to fetch the data from a fixed IP address or registered domain on a server rather than rely on the IP of the phone as it could change at any time. That being said I can't see Telus blocking ports that are outside their range. If that were the case all of my SQL database apps wouldn't work on my device and so far...so good.

...I'm currently on hold with Telus DNA for clarification.

A call to Telus DNA confirms, NO Port blocking on non-Telus IP ranges.

They did say that there are a few IP address's of known spammers that they are blocking but at the IP address not the port level.... for security reasons he would not give me the address's....lol

Just noticed something.... J4Me saying he's changing the port and it works, I'm assuming he's changing the port on the computer/firewall he's trying to connect to as well right? If not then there's the problem. Computers/workstations/servers by default allow data through port 8080 (and very few others) and that’s it. You have to configure them to use others specifically. Now if the app worked before through another port than we (ok I) assume the computer is already configured to the specific port he's trying to connect through. Either way.... Telus is saying they don't block ports.
