I have posted this over at XDA before but I got no such help so I will try here. (I dont recall posting it on here before)

Ok so I got my TELUS IQ sent out not to long ago and one thing I always put on first after flashing is the threaded messaging... Its awesome compared to the standard LG crap. BUT What I wanted to talk about is why cell phones are such wimps to handling 1000 texts or more?

On my IQ, when I hit a few hundred text messages total or in one thread it will open the thread and allow me to receive texts and reply fine... But then when I try and leave the messages or that thread, the phone locks up. (Every single time, some times requiring a soft reset)

Now... I was also able to test this on my loaner phone the HTC Hero... I believed this ones packing 600 MHz? What I noticed here is it will just get slower and slower and slower when opening and closing threads, depending on how many texts you have. Then I can NOT stress this enough about how horrible it is to delete those few hundred texts on the Hero... It took me several hours to delete a total of 2000 texts from a few threads.

Now on the Hero its got Android 1.5 and 600 MHz so I can kind of forgive it a little, but what I dont get is why our phone cant handle dealing with large threads.

I mean comon, were packing 1 ghz! And 256 MB RAM here! We got power!

Any suggestions other then the obvious deleting them everyday?

I would suggest MS My Phone. You can go to their website to manage your text messages and archive older messages to keep the number on your IQ to a number it can handle. I go on about once a week to trim my messages down to under 200. The messages you archive are available online if you need to access them. Keeps your phone happy and you still can access them if you need to.

the myphone suggestions a good one

technically/underneath, I believe the issue is the api for handling messages. Needing to iterate and delete each individually is what's time consuming.

Hilariously, I find the LG app actually does deletes quickly and had re-enabled it on occassion to delete stuff (before i discovered myphone wasn't something i needed to avoid).

LOL. I know what you mean, I usually try to avoid MS apps myself but that one is something useful. I like the archive feature. Some of my messaging threads are thousands of texts long and contain info I sometimes need. It also makes deleting texts fairly simple as you can select several and a time and then sync once to clean up the inbox.

I guess so not really what I want to do to read a text though, I just wish that someone would find a way of making it easier on the phone...

Which is kind of odd because My phone can handle word documents like 20 pages long yet it cant handle  a bunch of text messages... Although I will admit I do sometimes hit around 5000 texts.

Yeah that really amazed me! I honestly would be in trouble if the LG Messaging app weren't there because when ever I use MS Messaging it always has this weird glitch were it wont let me completely delete the texts. The LG one does though and at a decent speed to!

Yeah, I have found myself between MS and LG apps... Like LG apps look really fresh and nice yet run slowly or drag around. Then MS runs fast, but looks dull boring and doesn't always work.

The LG apps should run better with Chainfire's GL drivers.

They do, but it should run better...without the need for additional applications.

It should.
Though the blame falls squarely on the manufacturers for not buying the video drivers from Qualcomm, then releasing a product with semi functionality.

All of them, were hands down guilty.

It's now a thing of the past, as MS buys an uses everything it needs to make its OS run properly on the same chip set an is out of the hands of the manufacturers now.
I honestly believe that is one of the reasons WP7 seems to run so smoothly on the same hardware we have, their new OS has the Video drivers out of the gate where we were sold phones without graphic support.

What's this LG app you speak of? What does it do (better/differently)?
