there is an exe called switchusb.exe in the windows folder that changes usb mode it might help. i never had a problem syncing my phone syncs when i just want to charge and somtimes doesnt charge from my laptop.

The problem with charging is your laptop might not be providing full USB port power all the time (most do not while on battery). If < 550mA current is coming from the USB port, phone won't charge.

The LG GW820/825 is pretty power hungry phone btw - the bundled charger has 1000mA current output which is near double for a high-power USB port. When charging via computer port (or 550mA charger) and using the phone heavily with wifi and BT enabled, charging may take forever. What I noticed under these circumstances charge would increase by just a single percentage point for more than an hour of charging.

To add to the USB sync issue. I am now almost certain the crappy bundled cable was the reason for my issues. Ever since I started usinga nother cable (off my Moto Milestone) I am yet to experience a single disconnect! Everyting else is unchanged - same PC, same phone - just new cable. I'd suggest everyone having the disconnect problem  to try this.

This is worth repeating as the key is, When the laptop is on battery power, and when its plugged into the wall, its a different story.

About the Snapdragon/Scorpion being power hungry, It uses less juice then the a older 600 mhz core, though, this is a Prof type of device and has many options such as Hi-speed HSPA,Wi-Fi, Blue Tooth, scanner etc...and when all on and combined they can easily exceed the power input of 500mah, though in idle state, a charge is possible at 500mah.

About the new cable, that may be worth testing out indeed, before ROM start getting flashed lol.

I think I gave you this answer on XDA a few minutes ago( LOL), but I've tried to sync on 3 PC's with 3 OS - XP with AS, Vista with device center, and Win 7 64bit with device center. Hard reset, 3 USB cables, only bluetooth or Wifi Remote Access works for me.
Maybe a total of 3 times I was able to sync on my Win 7 PC after a reboot, but I cannot duplicate the results.

Do you have Advanced Networking turned off under Settings>Connections>USB-to-PC?

FWIW I'm syncing my eXpo to a XP/Activesync desktop and a W764/MDC laptop.  Both using the LG supplied cable.  Neither works as reliably as my ol' 8125, but the W7 laptop is noticably worse.

I've been using the cable supplied by LG for my Incite and haven't had any problems with connecting and keeping a connection. I've also used the one supplied with the eXpo and don't have any problems with it either. Maybe a few bad cables made it into the bunch.

My first post here, so bear with me Smiley
I can confirm that using a different cable does indeed provide a stably sync connection between the PC (Win 7 x64) and the GW820. Last time I tried syncing with supplied cable was when I first got the phone in december, and could not get a stable connection for the life of me, I even installed all the LG drivers I could find online, nothing worked it just kept disconnecting after a few seconds repeatedly. Now, after reading this great thread, I decided to give it a try, and used a supplied micro usb cable that came with my logitech mouse, which I use to charge it. I reistalled the windows device center, connected the phone and bam, no disconnects for over 20minutes it was connected! So, either the supplied cable is defective or there have been some windows updates that fixed this issue, either way, Im stoked I can finally sync my phone with my computer.
Update: I just tried the supplied cable again, and the sync diconnected after about 20 seconds and reconnected, and did that several times in a row. so the cable is definitely the culprit.

Welcome to the forums nenad16 Wink.

Yes, the Sync is a pain in the craw alright, works intermittently with Vista an Seven, and is perfect with XP.

Good to hear a new cable made a difference for your set up, nice to hear someone is winning that battle with it.
