You can't get better support than this, personalize support from other LG eXpo owners.

Especially when LG can't support you when you call. lol I called them about an issue I was having and they couldn't help me because they didn't even have hands-on with the eXpo or even a unit there they could look at. Pretty sad if you ask me.

Hi Guys

Own the LG Expo - have a huge problem at the moment - lost all audio from the rear speaker. It happened while I was in the middle of playing a video file that was recorded using internal camcorder. I contacted LG who replied suggesting I ship the phone to the U.S. (I'm in Australia so I can't make a warranty claim either - the EXPO is only supported in the U.S of course by AT & T. LG in Australia have no idea about it). All other phone functions operate normally. My instincts tell me that this isn't a physical breakdown of the speaker but rather a firmware issue (It happened once before and I fixed it with a hard reset). Hard resetting however doesn't provide a fix this time around. The front speaker (phone call audio) is working o.k.

I'm no techinical expert and I don't have a good understanding of ROM cooking...etc.. however what I do know is that doing a hard reset on the LG EXPO does not reset everything to factory default (I could be wrong).

I checked the registry...I don't know what the default value for the speaker driver registry entry should be. Any help from anyone on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

John

Hey johnny4fingers

SOrry to hear your troubles, Wow theres a nasty one indeed.

I have seen the some wierdness with the sound controls but not a total loss yet, so this is new, and maybe, could be tricked into working again.

I might try, using the home phone an calling your cell, an playing with the ringer volume button as a call is incoming, and or sms or email, i have seen where it will go quiet an stop responding to new audio signals untill the volume rocker is tickled.

If not, maybe try changing the default ringer/email tone to another an repeating.

I don't know if anything is going to help this situation, if its a firmware issue, we'r all in for troubles i suspect, I know theres a couple glitches, nothing that a patch/rom shouldn't fix though for the patient.

Well try this, an let us know, what happened, and what you plan to do.

Peace

Hi WarRaven

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I have tried everything you suggestes...(calling the phone / changing ring tones / settings / playing with volume control / inserting headphones (headphone audio is working by the way) / setting alarm etc.... phone only can vibrate... no audio at all from rear speaker.

I must admit that in the past with other phones, I've never really had a need for sound and my phones have also been in vibrate mode (I also have a BT watch connected to phone which is a bonus for alerts from a distance). However it would be nice for the phone to make some noise when required. I think I could put up with it if it could eventually be fixed by flashing the ROM (something I've never done in the past on a WINMO device. Do you think I'd be o.k. in doing that when a ROM update is available?

Also if the phone's proble is a firmware issue - would flashing it resolve any corrupt data?? Does flashing totally delete all current registry or does it write on top of it? Please forgive my lack of knowledge on this topic.

Thank you for the warm welcome to the forum.

Kind regards,

No worries, we're all learning every day.

If it was capable of being restored through a ROM upgrade/flash, it would be no problem for you to do at home.

Yes, it would wipe the phone, an reflash windows, lg's stuff an their programs back onto the phone, including a freshened registry, and that is restored after a Hard reset too (Clearing internal storage).

I don't know, if its not software hanging up,  and other then a loose connection, what else can you do.. may have to send it in for repair, or hope that a Patch/Rom comes out that restores it.

Maybe some of the other locals may have ideas and pitch hopefully.

Well, Enjoy yourself here, an be part of our small community, and keep us informed as what happens.

Peace

Go into your settings an shut Voice command completly off an try to call phone...

Maybe you already did this, Idk, though it costs nothing to try an it will humour me.

Hi WarRaven

Tried turning voice command off as well... no luck. The other thing I've also noticed is that the phone is becoming sluggish when trying to perform non phone features. I tried installing a GPS application (Pocketmap) - and it just subsequently freezes and comes up with a Microsoft error whenever I try to run it - only works slightly after a hard reset and directly after installation (but still sluggish) - when I try to initiate from start menu - wont function at all - just freezes. I don't know what to say. Thanks again for your help though.

Don't know how much help this would be, but there is an engineer's menu you can access by dialing:

3845#*820#

(discussed here http://www.lg-expo.com/lg-expo-tips-tricks/disable-3g-and-select-bands/msg533/#msg533 )

There is a device test that lets you test the rear speaker. This could actually fix your issue just from testing it. It's worth a try,

Hi spidertech

I tried the test... no luck. Only the front speaker is audible when performing the test. I even did a factory reset from this menu thinking it may differ from standard hard reset routine - still no luck. Thank you for the info though- it was worth a try.

Hey Guys

Is it possible for someone to please chack their registry settings? Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Speaker. Please see attached file for my current value settings.
