Okay I don't know if it's just my phone or something that I installed but this thing is eating power like crazy.  I haven't used it at all (no texts, phone calls, no internet connection) and in 3 hours the battery has went from 100% to 72% and dropping fast.  Anyone else experience this insane power drain?  I remember on my HTC tilt there was a crazy power drain that was caused by something.  Anyone know of an app that can monitor power usage?

Dont know of any battery monitor usage apps, but this app monitors voltage, current, temperature.

http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-powerguard-v1-2.html

When i got my phone at first, I was having horrible battery life too.  Couldn't last 12 hours with out a recharge.  I followed the advice on another post to do a couple charge/de-charge cycles.  This seemed to work.  I now get about 87% with light usage in 12 hours.

Don't forget to end apps running in the task manager, that should help a little.

Well I've sent a total of 5 messages today, haven't made any calls or used the net at all at it's currently at 21% left after 10 hours.  I've played with it for a total of about 10 minutes...  Something is definitely up.  Trying to think of what I installed in the last 2 days.  I may have to do another hard reset and install things one at a time monitoring power usage after each install to figure out what it is.  Major bummer.

edit:  fell another 4% in 6 minutes lol  Roll Eyes  17% FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Might want to check your coverage map a little better. Find the nearest tower
From what your stating. I believe to be that your phone is seeking the nearest tower according to the phone (PRL) preferred roaming list. 3g to edge and back. The phones radio will do this. Go into wireless manager and turn the phone radio off not the device then back on to reset the radio for the nearest tower.

I was thinking did any of you charge the phone for the full 3 hours according to the guide when you first got the phone, or did you started to play with it at once. Either way when att(for me) shipped the phone it was activated. When I opened the box a stop label told me that the phone needs to be charge before first use.

Yeah I charged it prior to use and also I have made it go completely dead then charge it completely to give it a full cycle.  Might do that a couple more times as well.

If, its anything like mine was,...
It'll take a week or two.

At first, could watch it drop 10-20% an hour, now it's like 2% an hour.

Are you using the fingerprint lock?

I have had the same issue twice in the three weeks I've had my phone, both times were overnight while everything except the phone radio was off (and the apps were killed, I'm suspicious of this phone already so I'm being fairly diligent in watching stuff). The only other thing running in userspace would be the lock.

My phone gets reasonably well used and I typically charge every other day which almost exhausts the battery, except when this has happened. In both cases it'd gotten a recharge to full within the last 6 hours, some light usage, and then lost 70%+ in the next 6 hours while I slept. Angry

Well, we're kinda glossing over the normal stuff an i assume we all have our devices set to auto sleep after no use either on battery an plugged in..lights to auto dim..Wifi off, Bt off when not needed.

Are you keeping a high amount of data in your "My documents" folder an using Myphone service, It has option to sync alot over air, this phone has a 5mp camera, load up on pictures an watch it sync forever, IF, that option is set on.

Are you exchanging with a exchange server, like google or myphone, is your calender slow to open on the handset perhaps, again, another potential slow an draw on power when it syncs in idle times.
(Some have schedules like hillary clinton an it will effect syncing to a degree.)

Next is Signal, Via Radio is highest energy consumption on the device, the radio can tune up near to a AMP of power when its needed to communicate with the towers, So if its losing connection with the tower, its gonna eat power up FAST.(On Telus, Set to Telus Only, do you still have a signal, if not, your roaming, AT&T users, can set their radios back to edge an verify another angle of consumption there as well.)

One way to check this is to shut off the radio when you sleep, airplane mode, does it still consume %11 or so an hour?

I use the scanner yes, no issue with battery.

Last is, if the phone is less then 3 weeks old in your daily usage, it probably has NOT, calibrated the hardware level battery voltage properly yet, not enough full cycles to gauage voltage levels into percentages.(Which is, very touchy(Between 2.65-4.65v)

I have the same problem, very little usage and almost 5% per hour loss. What helped a little was making windows live a manual startup instead of automatic. This can be done with a program like memaid or SK tools. It will effect your hotmail account as well.
I also have a memory leak that brings my program memory from 74mb to about 48mb in about 6hrs. The only cure for this has been soft resets.

Yes, Polling an or pushing, is going to cost some battery power.

Though, I have my exchange set to, as items arrive, Hotmail as items arrive, an two other email accounts that manually poll every 15 an 30 minutes and is currently what i am set at. as well as weather updates every 30 minutes.

I don't have any incoming emails coming into my phone or any media net (at&t's internet) usage.  The fingerprint lock is set to come on after 1.5 hours of non-use.  I didn't start having power problems til over a week after I got the phone then on Monday it just went crazy.  I woke up this morning and turned the alarms and everything off still plugged in, I put it in my pocket and headed to work, when I checked my phone 45 mins later after not touching the thing it was at 90%.  I've barely used it today (played dragon ball for about 20 mins) and after 7 hours being off the charger it's at 30%.

I notice the phone gets really hot in my pocket and battery drain gets crazy, if I put it in my desk drawer it will cool off and battery consumption gets better.  I figure it has to be something I installed this weekend has a memory leak or is causing the power consumption.  Outside of a few skins (WMP, Coreplayer) I don't think I really installed anything else.  What really sucks is every power monitor I've found and installed won't give me a power usage amount on this phone (they all just read 0 mAH), so there is no way I could install one item at a time and check battery usage.  Using DotFred's Taskmanager everything open seems to using about the right amount of memory though so I'm lost on where it could be coming from.

edit:  I never use Voice Command so I just disabled it and removed from StartUp which free'd up a decent chunk of ram.  Also I had the phone optimized for performance with SKTools but it's probably unnecessary with the amount of processing power this thing has so I just optimized it for maximum free ram and I'll see if that makes any difference.

While messing with this I've avoided setting anything up that could be causing background downloads.

I have activesync syncing my contacts (less than 100), calendar (pretty bare except for birthdays), tasks (normally deleted after completed) and notes (about 5), only over usb, and it was definitely not running before bed, or when I got up to find the phone dead.

While I did upgrade the copy of windows live on the phone, I've never set it up or signed into it, so it's not syncing anything. Same for email, I haven't configured any of my accounts on the phone (although I'd sure like to!).

BT hasn't even been enabled since I got the phone.

I've also noticed the phone gets fairly warm when charging, but I "corrected" that by making sure I killed I display when it was plugged in.

I'll probably have to wait until the weekend to disable the phone radio (essentially on call during the week) but that only leaves me a couple of days before my 30 days from purchase is up. Sad

That sure sounds like its losing signal near your body while on your person to me..

Another way to alleviate heat build up when charging, is like you said, turning screen off, can also slide keyboard open an shut it off in a open state to let air circulate thro two halves. (totally not needed, though one can do this.)

In your case too, i still suspect signal lol, i know it sounds like a usuall suspect, but i think it is in this case the same thing, maybe not as bad as Ghostface's though.

Earlier in thread...M240-A1 suggests..

Give this a shot guys, shut down an restart your phones in the troublespots, example, where you fella's suspect your battery drain is highest, like your desk Ghostface an Mrpants where ever you put yours at night.

The phone i can say, has a great battery life on mine now, it was once so bad, i thought i would have to keep charging it every 6 hours, it did improve an greatly, so all i can add here is, It should, be better in your fella's cases, and or improve from where its known to be at now one way or another.
