Hey guys,
I recently picked up the LG IQ with Telus last month and while I'm trying really hard to like it, I've noticed some things that I just wanted to see if others are experiencing/know how to fix...

First off, have you guys noticed general sluggishness/lag? I notice it particularly when pulling out the keyboard, the IE browser, scrolling through photos in the camera's viewer, typing texts, or trying to access my text messages? (this is my second one and they've both had the same performance)

What update should I be at to be up-to-date?

Has anyone used the FB app? If so, does it happen to you that everyone's tiny profile pictures get saved to your pictures folder and is there a way to prevent that? (it's super annoying to have to delete some 30-odd teeny photos that get saved when you refresh your profile etc.)

Do you guys have a way of being able to tell if texts have successfully been sent? I find whether or not they have sent properly, they shown up the looking the same in my text message history thread. (this happens every now and then when I send texts when I'm out of service and expect them to send later)

If anyone is using this phone with Telus, are you able to send out MMS texts with a data block?

A review (http://www.wpcentral.com/review-lg-expo) I read mentioned "one thing to remember is that if you have the eXpo/IQ [video recorder] on silent or vibrate, you will not have audio available for your video". Is this meaning that I will not hear audio if it is on silent, or that it will not record audio if it is on silent? (I tried testing this on my own but ended up getting audio on the phone, but not when I saved the files to my laptop?)
The review also mentioned a fix to improper focusing for the camera. I don't think I saw that fix with the Tweaker program; does anyone know if that fix is available here anywhere?

Thanks to anyone who actually goes through all this!

I'd try disabling the MMS app before trying anything else.

Do you kill your apps or do you just let everything run in the background?

Which interface are you using (LGIdles/Titanium/etc)?

What update should I be at to be up-to-date?

There was only the one release for the IQ. Telus did not deem the phone worthy of any additional updates. Sad

Has anyone used the FB app? If so, does it happen to you that everyone's tiny profile pictures get saved to your pictures folder and is there a way to prevent that? (it's super annoying to have to delete some 30-odd teeny photos that get saved when you refresh your profile etc.)

Thankfully not. I did see some other thread about the app being updated, maybe check there? Or find a different facebook client?

By default mine popped up the sent message notification, which was annoying. I see you have tweaker installed, did you disable it in there?

If anyone is using this phone with Telus, are you able to send out MMS texts with a data block?

If I understand everything correctly, this isn't possible.

A review (http://www.wpcentral.com/review-lg-expo) I read mentioned "one thing to remember is that if you have the eXpo/IQ [video recorder] on silent or vibrate, you will not have audio available for your video". I hadn't read that review before ... and in skimming it I didn't see the reviewer mention a focus fix other than post-processing software (e.g. Photoshop)

Regarding the video ... I never had my phone on silent, so I didn't experience what the reviewer claims.

I have however taken video and gotten picture+audio on both the phone and other devices so I'm not sure why you don't get sound on your laptop.

How did you get the video off the phone/did it get converted at all?

Are you running something pre XPSP3 that might be missing codecs?

I don't know how to do all that fancy quoting stuff, so I didn't bother. It would probably turn into a headache to read.

I would disable the MMS app, except I actually do text. If I understood it correctly, I wouldn't be able to text anymore?

I kill them manually when I think of it. I know android has an app that does it automatically. Does windows?

I didn't change anything so I assume I have the default, LGidles? What's the difference? Do you recommend something else?

I don't actually have the tweaker installed yet, been too busy with exams =(. But I didn't mean the immediate notification (which I have on), I meant it more in terms of when youre looking at the texting history between you and another phone. In android, it will show if it has been sent or not, but I have found no feature like that for the IQ. The only way to tell is to select the message, see it in SMS view, and then you'll know it hasn't been send if the "SEND" option is still there. I'm looking to see if there's any way to check it an easier way, such as the way android has it featured?

Hey jaipex,

I know what you mean about the SMS/MMS view that comes with the default IQ... I hated it. The LG version although it may be nice looking is pretty useless as it is. The first registry tweak I created in the Tweaker app. was to turn MS threaded msg's back on, that fixed my problem with sms/mms and I've never looked back. Come to think about it, I think it was the single biggest issue I had with the phone way back then....lol

And a damn fine tweak that is to! You probably saved me from returning this phone right away.

I have too much time on my hands. I manually copy/paste the quote tags while I'm composing the message. Wink

I normally switch to notepad or similar and paste in my reply as I find the editor on here painful.

SMS will work, but not MMS, So you can txt, but no "picture messaging"

I kill them manually when I think of it. I know android has an app that does it automatically. Does windows?

There's a bunch of different ones. Hopefully someone'll recommend one. I wrote my own (1) because I'm silly like that and (2) because I only wanted to auto kill specific things. I'm sure there's efficient, configurable ones out there, I just don't know what they are.

I didn't change anything so I assume I have the default, LGidles? What's the difference? Do you recommend something else?

If you've got the row of little icons along the bottom that scrolls side to side, with the pop up access to wireless manager and such, that's LG Idles. I think LG calls it "S Class" or something.

With a little bit of tweaking, it's not horrible. But it can be laggy at times, even on the 1ghz processor.

If you've got a more vertical list type interface that's "Titanium", Microsoft's addition to the ui.

It's also possible to not use either of those and return to the truly classic windows mobile interface or get something fancy like SBP Mobileshell

How do you find the update? The only update I could find was via the LG website.

LG's website gives you an app that'd allow you to check for updates. I think I worded my previous reply poorly. There's only ever been one version of the software for the IQ, and zero official updates.

I don't actually have the tweaker installed yet, been too busy with exams =(. So you are using LG's app. Get tweaker and disable LG's messaging app. Do it on your lunch break if you can, it's that big a difference.

Hahaha mrpants, work that boring?

I tried disabling it as per these instructions (http://www.lg-expo.com/lg-expo-general-support/responding-very-slowly/msg9714/#msg9714), but I found that it stopped sending my normal texts as well. But thats not a big deal because I realise now that I do send MMS as well. Or have been lately.

Care to share your own? =) Otherwise Ill wait around for what other people recommend.

Yeah I guess I've got both LGIdles and Titanium (which everyone does by default, no?). Which do you recommend?

:S You mean the program you download onto your computer and run from there, or an actual app to run from the cellphone? I only found the former.
..then what was the POS I updated onto my cell that reformatted everything haha?

And I put the tweaker on last night and am enjoying it so far =) thanks!

Perk (and occassionally downside) of being my own boss Smiley

It's probably better to get a "real" app ... It's one of the few things I've written in unmanaged code, and as we're trying to improve your experience I don't want to add something that may crash your phone Wink

I ran titanium (as do most people).
LG's interface can be okay with some tweaking, I used it for a while, but I just found overall it was too many "actions" to do anything.

We're probably talking about the same one. It's definitely a PC based app.

So even with the stock rom it went ahead and re-flashed to the stock rom? That's odd.

Can you post your version numbers to satisfy my curiousity?

Did you disable LG's messaging app (It should look very different, no more "speech bubbles" or "lined paper") ?
With that disabled and LG's MMS app lnk disabled you should be able to txt (still no mms though).

Note that if you're using LG Idles it'll launch their messaging app, even if you applied the settings in tweaker so you'll basically have to switch to titanium, although using the start menu should work too.

eh.. I find Titanium is one fugly POS. With the performance boosts though, I find now LGIdles bearable.

Apparently.. It's at version v10c. Is that about right?
Though I feel like it was v10c before... maybe I'm reading this wrong haha

Well, there's no tweak that explicitly says disable LGIdles messaging app, but by that I assume you meaning turning on threaded msg? Yeah, I did. But I suppose because I'm still using LGIdles I still have the bubbles and in order to get to the threaded version, I have to go into the bubbles and click more "SMS view". Using start menu gives me the same result.
I gotta mention though, the immediate message sent pop-up notification is now gone? :S

It definitely ain't pretty, but some tweaking can make it useful anyways. To each their own though Smiley

That's what I was expecting, to the best of my knowledge there was only ever 10c for the IQ.

Interesting, there is a way to get to the native messaging app while using LG Idles, although I can't remember what it is. It was still more of a hassle then just not using Idles ... I'm reasonably sure the disabling of the popup notification was a tweak, but it's been over a month since my IQ was even on, so this is all from memory.  Undecided
