Maybe someone out there can give me some technical advice.  I think my Expo has a bluetooth connection issue.

In the two months time that I've had my phone, I've only connected via bluetooth with two devices, the "Altec Lansing BackBeat 903 Stereo Bluetooth Headset" being one of them.  This headset is great minus one issue - the connection to my phone is not a strong one.  Listening to audio on the headset while my phone is on my belt carrying case (or even just in my pocket), there are many consistent breaks due to what seems to be a misconnection until I bring the phone closer up towards the head set.  Or even when I'm taking through the headset on a phone call, those on the other end say that "I'm not clear", "the phone is choppy", "breaking up"; all unless I have the handset up around my chest level so to get a solid connection and clear communication.

At first I thought it was maybe this particular headset which caused the issue but after utilizing the second device, I realized that it must be a phone issue instead.  Does anyone have any insite as to what may be the cause for this issue and what I may be able to do to resolve it.

Thanks!

Make sure that you pocket the phone on the same side of your body as the location of the Bluetooth transceiver in your headset, i.e. if the BT module is in the right earpiece, put the phone in your right pocket. You want to avoid forcing the two devices to send a signal through your body, which degrades it.

This does make a big difference, I can confirm. If that does not help enough however, Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool will let you adjust the bitpool and a couple other settings that can increase the quality of the connection, at the cost of a slight system performance hit. I know someone posted the cab for that somewhere here awhile back - I'll put it up if I can't find it again.

I would agree, that it is being blocked by your body, or the batteries in the headset are weak.

I B/T mine in the garage all the time, I set up in truck, then take phone an stereo remote back to my tool box an stream an play my music from there and thats about 10-20 feet apart from truck an no issues.

Curious if just moving it on your body solves it, I have heard the likes suggested before, that the body is absorbing most of the signal and degrading the experience.

Wow, I didn't realize that the body can degrade the connection, but it does make sense.  I usually carry my belt case by my right hip because I'm right-handed so it's much easier to get to and put in back, and the transceiver on the headset is on the left side.  I'll see about adjusting to the left side, hopefully I'll get a stronger connection.

RogueCheddar, I've openned the tool on my phone but cannot find where to adjust the bitpool.  When I expand on Bluetooth, I only see four subtopics: "Bluetooth device name:", "OBEX: Disabled", "Audio gateway service: Disabled", and "Audio gateway power save: Disabled".  As I've researched the tool online I see that I'm suppose to see "Bitpool" listed there but I do not.  Can you figure any reason why not, or any other way to adjust it?

Also in adjusting the Bitpool, should I increase it for better bluetooth performance, or should I decrease the number - I'm not sure how it works or even how much of a hit it'll bring to the system performance?

Thank you all for the fast responses that you've given me, ever since I've checked out this site I've loved my phone even more.  :-D

AFAIK, the Advanced Config tool was written specifically for HTC devices, so some of the options do not work on the Expo, which contains different registry keys.

That is true, it is designed with HTC devices in mind, however I do have the options for bluetooth that  I mentioned earlier on my EXpo - kind of surprised they are not showing up for you. Did you download the cab attached to the post I linked to, or get it elsewhere?

I took it from the same link you posted.  Is there any other method I can use to get to that setting?

If not then I'll just work on getting adjusted to my case on my left side :-)

Thanks again!

You know, I do remember seeing those settings at some point. However, they're not showing up for me in either AC 3.2 or AC 3.3.

Hmm.. how odd. I have version 3.3 installed, and got it from the same link as I posted above.

I'll have to look into my BT settings on my Expo and see if I have something enabled that maybe you guys don't, otherwise I'm stumped  Huh

I've got exactly the same problem.  I've used a half dozen different bluetooth devices and all have the same problem; I can hear people just fine, but they complain I'm choppy, and/or not coming through loud enough.

I'm at my wits end.  It's illegal to use a cell phone without a hands free device in BC, and I spend 50% of my day in the car.  I need to get this working properly.

I installed the Adv. Config cab, and I too only get four options under BT, and there is nothing about adjusting the Bitpool setting.

Well, unfortunately, I am now in the same situation after updating the ROM to V10g - my callers say they cannot hear me clearly or my words are choppy or cut off. This happens mainly when I am driving and the phone is not in my hand out in front of me, but on my belt (same side of body as headset). Also, when I reinstalled Advanced Configuration, I too lost the extra bluetooth options I mentioned above.  Angry

Has anyone made any progress with finding a solution? I am having the same bluetooth connection problems. I cannot use a bluetooth headset with my phone because it cuts in and out so badly. I've tried two different brand-new sets, a Samsung WEP200 and a Plantronics Voyager Pro. Also tried with stock v10g rom and Dragonstorm v4. No joy.
