First off you will need the following:
1) A working data connection on your phone
2) This OCR program from
http://www.topocr.com/mobile.html. This program will scan a jpg image (such as from your phone's camera!) for editable text in various languages.
3) A google translator app, such as the one available from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8020917#post8020917.Steps
a) Take a photo of the page of text or sign or book or magazine or anything in a lanuguage supported by TopOCR (in my case I use it to get text from french reports) using your Expo's camera. Remember the file name and location.
b) open TopOCR and click on file to open your photo image. Press OCR you will hear a beep and it will automatically paste your OCR'ed text to the clipboard.
c) open the google translator app and paste your text directly into the app.
d) hit the translate button to your preferred language.... bingo bango!
e) you can then read the translation or copy the translation to an email, sms, mms, mobile word or excel.
