Anyone knows?
I always thought it would use WiFi if the WiFi was on, on the phone. Hmm

Try turning everything accept for WiFi on...that should fix it if it isn't already doing so.

Thanks for your reply.

I am in Canada and I got the phone through Teleus. Telus requires us to "For mobile phones, Windows Live™ Messenger is available as a subscription on it's own. "

Could you please explain how to turn on wifi on everything? currently, the browsers are for sure using wifi now.

I'm not sure about Teleus, But I know that the pre-installed version of Windows live messenger on the AT&T phones had a tatel tale built in.  It would ping AT&T every time you used instant messenger like you were using Texts.  I found that by installing a clean version of Window Live Messenger on the phone that I was no longer getting charged for texts when I used instant messages.  I know Dark Took the Bundled messengers off the new ROM's he created and I have been using a clean version of Windows Live every since and have not had to pay my instant messages as texts ever since.

I would say try this at your own risk and check your account to see if it is creating charges or not.  Seeing as the instant messages are going through internet rather than their Cell Towers I was not happy to be charged for Instant messages like a text.  My guess is that because there is a tatel tale in the AT&T version that even using it on WiFi you may get charged as it might use the internet to alert Teleus of your Instant messaging even though your using WiFi.

All of this take with a grain of Salt as I don't know for sure how the IQ is set up on Teleus.

Well I am pretty sure (prove me if im wrong) that you only pay for instant messaging on feature phones.... The IQ is a smartphone so i doubt that would apply. With me it counts under data and I have taken no special steps to make it so.

I use Palringo for my IM client. It uses whatever your fastest data connection happens to be at the time. If you're on WiFi, it will use WiFi. If not, it will use whichever band you are connecting with. With Telus, that means you will get WiFi or 3G as Telus never built an EDGE network. Another nice thing about Palringo is that you can be signed into more than one IM account and even different IM services. Here's a link:

The way I understand it, Telus used CDMA in their 2G network instead of GSM. EDGE is GSM. Different technology not just different frequencies.
