All credit for this tip goes to leobg, from this post:

1. Throw away the piece of crap LG cable that came with the phone.
2. Use a third-party sync cable (I'm using an old miniUSB one with a microUSB adapter).

Hi  thekingevrock

So now you have a stable USB connection with a different USB cable?

Interesting, I myself have hit an miss days, though for most part lately it worked.

Yes, it would seem so, although with a few caveats.

I maintained an eight-plus hour continuous sync overnight, but had problems duplicating that stability this morning. Then I realized that my sync cable has always been attached to a very long extension cable, which itself was plugged into a four-port USB hub.

Once I ditched the extension cable and plugged directly into a built-in USB port, I got a steady connection back.

Edit: I should mention that I'm syncing to a Windows 7 64-bit machine.

Makes perfect sense.

I always use to use a extension on my HTC's, though gave it up when this phone came into my world.

Just got XP installed as a dual boot, I got to try it there and see how it fares for staying connected.
(And being able to flash ROM's etc with low overhead)

Peace
