I found there is very easy way to unlock the iQ (I assume eXpo too), simply by using universal unlock sim module. Those are available for under 5 bucks on ebay. It is a very slim printed circuit board with a small chip in the corner that goes under the your SIM card. I have few of those laying in my desk drawer for quite a while now. Out of couriosity I popped in my Rogers SIM with one of those suckers underneath and to my surprise phone started and registered on Rogers network just fine - 3G and everything working. I had to manually configure APN settings for Rogers to get data working, but once I did - it was fine. Some things like A-GPS were still trying to access Telus "SP" APN, but I am sure it is a matter of poking in registry to fix all those.
The SIM unlockers sometimes require you to cut your sim to make space for the small chip in the corner, but with the IQ that's not necesarry as there is plenty of space to fit everything without any cutting.

So for everyone looking to unlock the phone and save some cash - check this method out (plus you won't lose the 'unlock' money if you have to replace your phone under warranty Smiley)

Wow, very interesting indeed.

Never seen one before or even heard of it prior.

Thanks for the information.

Not sure if it is appropriate to put links to ebay here on the board, but check item #230455990692 if you want. This is what I've got (maybe not the same seller - can't remember, but looks same). LG GW820/825 is not on the list, but I can confirm it works (on GW825). And you can see - cost is under 3 bucks shipped - much better than $40 for unlock code Smiley

Mod - delete the references to ebay/whole post if inappropriate for the board. Thanks

Yes they will, but those that have the IQ won't be able to. From what I've been told by IQ users TELUS won't give up the unlock codes.

Laws are different up north and there's no requirement for carriers to unlock; so it's almost unheard of for them to do it.

There was talk of a new bill to change those rules to be more like the US (e.g. being required to give out the code if asked after 30 days) but I don't know what happened to that.

LC24 it depends on if your an att customer or not, if you are and have been with them for more than 30 days you can call them and they will give you the unlock code, and instructions on how to do it. If not go to ebay and type in "no cut sim unlock" and get one that doesn't have iphone in the title and that will let you use any sim in your expo.
