Greetings, all.

So glad you are here!  Have browsed for information before, but am just now joining you as a user.

Have had my eXpo since January.  It's pretty much set up the way it was when I opened the box.  Always wanted to customize, change the OS, etc... but was overwhelmed by options.  I am pretty much technology illiterate and my developer boyfriend wants me to figure it out for myself. (You know, the whole "teach a man to fish" argument.)  I do find the original set-up fairly awkward, as many others have stated.

Alas, now I am having some issues which are forcing me to spend some time on this.  Mixed blessing, I guess.

Hello and welcome to the forum. To begin customizing your phone, you should pick a rom as you have mentioned wanting to change the OS. If you like the Titanium interface, Dark's latest rom is a good one (Dragonstorm 23139) It also makes a good base if your going to run Mobile Shell from SPB. If you would prefer the Sense interface, thekingevrock has cooked a couple of those. After deciding on a rom, you should read the How to Flash thread. When you have a shiny new rom you will probably want to check out Woodhole's Tweaker. He gives pretty good instructions but keep in mind that with a cooked rom, you do not need to install the .NET update. Other than that it will depend which apps you want to try out. There are some good apps in both MS Marketplace and Omarket (the Omarket apps are free). There is a lot of good info here and plenty of people ready to help if you need it. Have a look around and have some fun.

Thanks, vanillagorilla.

A couple quick questions:

--How do I choose the interface that will work best for me?
--Am I missing some obvious guide/ pros & cons list?
--Phone used most for sync w/Outlook (esp. calendar & tasks), music, some web surfing, guitar tuning, some MS Office viewing/editing, email, etc.

--Is Android a distant pipe dream?
--Starting to work as a music therapist and find myself getting jealous of all the music related apps available for iPhone and Android that simply don't exist for Windows Mobile...

Frankly these questions may be unneccessary, if I can't fix my touchscreen.  Anyone have success replacing theirs? (see post under general support forum)

Howdy there. As Vangy (Possible nick name o.O Tongue) said welcome to the forums!

Ill try and help you out and if I cant  then Vangy can for sure. So if your wondering what interface you like what I would suggest is give each a try! SPB Has a free demo in the market place, and its what I personally like because it  has widgets. And of course the standard windows mobile one which is a faster and more basic kind, and then the LGIdles which I sorta enjoy but isn't really the absolute best. Just give them each a try for one day then try a different one the next and see how it goes Smiley

Vangy . .  . uh, no. Any further use will result in a ban. Wink  (j/k). VG will do fine, however.

Titanium and Idles (what an awful name) are built into the stock rom. Titanium can be found by going to Start>Settings>Home. Click on the items tab and select Windows Default. Been a long time since I had an LG rom, not sure where to find Idles. Idles has been removed from most, if not all, cooked roms. Sense (or mobile sense) is the interface HTC uses on top of Windows mobile. As mentioned, you can download a trial of SPB Mobile Shell. It is a good and well polished shell. I actually paid for it when I used WM 6.1 on my Incite. After Dark got cookin' 6.5 roms, I never used it again. It uses too much memory for my taste and Titanium can be customized enough to be useful.

As for Android, we currently don't have someone with the time, knowledge and equipment to get this off the ground. We are a small community compared to those devoted to HTC products. I won't say it will never happen but you will probably have  moved on if/when does. Still could be fun for use on a (working) backup device. Especially in a dual-boot setup.

Enough rambling, I posted a reply in your screen issue thread. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
