New to Expo and oh so confused!

Just got my expo today and have been reading this site for days. I flashed the phone, or thought I did but nothing changed.

Got my music on the phone but cant firgure out how to move it to ringtones??? Tried to install a cab but messed that up as well.

this is the first time i have used windows on my phone and I am blonde so any help you can give me would be great.

Just tell me where to start or if I did the right thing when I flashed the phone or I did it wrong since the att stuff is still all there.

Please Help! i have no problem looking it up on this site just point me in the right direction! Thanks Amber

As for your cab problem may I ask what your trying to install on your phone?

And finally your ringtones... To set the ring tone i would recommend going to the file explorer, then finding the song you want as your ring tone (If its on the phone then go to my documents, and if its on the SD card go to storage card and find the song) Then tap and hold the song for 3 seconds and A menu with a few option will pop up, in that menu you can select set as ring tone. You can also go to settings, sounds and notifications, select incoming call from the menu, and pick one of the LG ring tones from their.

One thing i would also recommend you do is download the tweaker application from the link below, this lets you make the phone a lil bit faster, and allows for a bunch of other cool stuff.

Now finally I would get the "OMarket" Application, this is basically the Windows Market place but all free applications. (I have attached the CAB file for the OMarket) And it is all freeware so it is perfectly legal. To install it, just download the attached file, copy it to your memory card, then open it on your phone from the file explorer.

One more tip, I suggest you download a different web browser from the OMarket once you installed it. Opera, and Skyfire are two very nice ones that are alot better then Internet explorer that came pre-installed.

Hi Amber, and Like Eric said already, Welcome to the forums

Eric has done a fine job pointing things out for you to read an work on, well done Eric.

Though I want to add, Ring tones I put in the folder named, Application Data/Sounds instead of press an hold.
(Thats how I do it, its not a wrong or right way, just I like to have all my ring tones in that folder to select from an use for different contacts without worrying if they get deleted in another folder then causing issues.)

Then their always there, and Sms an email tones normally go in the /Windows folder itself as well as Alarm tones if you want to add to them.

Though to change these tones, You need Woodholes Tweaker App, and need to select an Enable "Enable missing sound an notifications options" and another setting in that same app, Is "Enable threaded text messaging". As this option is missing in the stock rom an is not shown even after flashing to one of Darks ROMs which are highly recommended.
Other wise you will be stuck with LGs implementation of Sms tones an messaging options, an while neat, it sucks at the same time lol.

Oh you may have to select in the Tweaker app, "Enable extended ringtones" if you have a long one or large one.

Eric has kindly provided the link for it in his reply an install it on the phone an away you go.

I'd like to also welcome you aboard, Amber. These guys have some good suggestions. Another app you may want to look into is Microsoft My Phone. It is free and can help back up data like texts, contacts and media. It can be installed from the WM Marketplace. There's lots to read and learn around here and some really good people to help out if you get frustrated. Have a look around and have some fun.

:)ya'll are the best. so much info on this site. so much to take in. I was trying to install Darks Cab file for sounds.

Let me ask you this can you save a cab when the storage card in still in the phone or is it best to take it out first?

When I flashed the phone it looked the same as it did before I flashed it. Everything was still there and all the options where the same. Should it have been different?

these are probly the stupidest questions ever but someday I hope to know enough about this at awnser someone else. once again ya'll are awsome thanks for the help!!

If you managed to flash the phone it would look different. The start button would be at the bottom of your screen instead of the top and there would be a dragon picture that comes up when you restart your device.

when you down load a cab and it comes up with all those files do you have to put the all on the card and then open them all?

For your SIM card problem, I had the same issue, so have many, and so far it seems like nothing is out to fix it just yet. As for the .cab files, it should be only one file per application, and thats the .cab itself... You dont need to extract it or anything special. Also it really doesnt matter where on the phone the .cab is placed, so long as you can find it to open it and install it.

I have the same issue with darks ROM unfortunately so lets hope its fixed soon

Also im glad you like the forums, it is alot to take in I know but if you got some spare time you really can learn alot about these phones. And I am sure anyone on heres willing to lend you a hand Wink

For your internet problem go to start menu > then to tools > then to proxy manager and make sure proxy is set to Disable Proxy.

This prevented me from connecting to the internet when i first flashed.

Do you know if this fixes the problem where the phone tries connecting on to VERIZON? Thats the problem I have and from the sounds of it that is what this I have had major issues with...

When you flashed the phone did you do a hard reset? i know this might sound crazy but when you install darks ROM sometimes there is still some leftover files and such that dont happen to get deleted from the Stock ROM on the phone, so it is always a good idea to reset the phone a few times after flashing. You can do this by going to Start > Settings > System > Clear Storage. Then just check Delete internal memory (DO NOT CHECK DELETE EXTERNAL MEMORY)

It will then reset back to where you set up the screen again. Reload your stuff and see if that helps.
