Hello all, after nearly 8 months of nothing but headaches and problems with AT&T and this expo I have decided it is time to try a different phone.

I have tried several times to fix these issues but get nothing but run around from AT&T about the problems. Darks Custom ROM's have made this phone a million times better then it was out of box but that still does not resolve my lingering issue's of the horrible receiption, horrible battery life, and latly issue's with the darn thing randomly calling my VM while on the phone.

So, my question to all is which phone should I get now? lol, I am stuck with AT&T but they did offer me any phone I want(minus the I-Phone aka POS) and I have it narrowed down to 2, they are:

http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phone-details/?device=Samsung+Captivate+(TM)+-+Black&q_sku=sku4760319

http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phone-details/?device=HTC+Aria+(TM)+-+Black&q_sku=sku4720254

Seems the HTC is about the same size as the eXpo, but may have a worse battery life.. Samsung looks nice and more comparable to the Iphone in size..

If you were me, which way would you go(both are android based phones)

Awe, that sucks....

Lemons do happen I guess.

And out of those two, Captivate, for the hardware, though I am always suspect of Samsung fit an finish, if it feels tight when holding it in store, go for it.

Let us know, how it goes an which you go with.

Thanks WR! I read all the reviews I could find on those 2 and even those do not look to be solid phones.

AT&T did offer to 'warranty replace' my phone for its issue's but I know how their warranty replacement works and they would end up billing me 350 bucks becasue the phone is 'damaged'( not damaged, ware and tare. its got scratchs... what phone that is 8 months old does not have scratches in it). Plus I really do not want a refurbished phone for my replacement.

I feel the eXpo I have still has that antenna issue that stopped production earlier this year, considering I got this phone right before they stopped production.

Either way, AT&T is out of new eXpos(with no ETA of delivery of anymore new ones. Guessing they pulled the product) and I again, do not want a refurbished phone...

Choices choices choices. I am leaning towards the samsung but am not totally sure. Maybe I will just dig up my old BJ2 and start using that again!

Yeah, you need to handle the Samsung first imo.

I hear you about replacing it, thats a hard spot to be in at this point in the mobile game.

Might be worth a try to see if they replace it or not without nailing your wallet, idk, I have my own demons on my Ca carrier, if they do, bonus, if not and they they want moola, no further behind really except maybe shipping.

As always, curious to how you wind up going.

Sorry to hear that you're having such problems with your phone. At first glance I would lean towards Samsung, but HTC makes a great product. I would want to be able to compare both phones at a store first before making a decision. Whatever your decision is I'm sure you will love the phone you get. Let us know how it goes and good luck.

The Samsung does have better specs. My Syncs, all four of them, were rock solid. My youngest still uses one that is 3 years old. Like WR says, if at all possible, pick it up in a store, don't let them pick it for you (not all Sammys are created equal). Two lemons in a row would hurt. Good luck and remember you don't have to be a stranger whatever you decide.

Sorry to hear you are having such a disappointing experience with your eXpo and facing the rock-and-a-hard-place choice of replacing with another phone or dealing with the lousy AT&T warranty policy. That's an tough spot to be in.

The HTC Aria is lightweight in not only battery life, but screen resolution and avail memory as well, so don't know if I'd go there.

I just finally cashed in my upgrade for the Samsung Captivate myself a week ago. Have been very happy so far. Fit and finish is tight, sleek and solid. Amazingly light device for the size, reception is terrific, truckloads of memory, battery holds strong once I trained it, and the screen is just jaw-dropping good. No physical keyboard OR any kind of D-pad, trackball or optical sensor whatsoever for navigation is taking some real adjustment though... Undecided  Score thus far: 9 out of 10  - minus 1 for no hardware navigation and for AT&T locking out non-market apps unless you root the phone - which I did of course  Wink

And, like WarRaven said, you don't have to be a stranger here just because you ended up with a lemon device. Let us know how it goes for you, and good luck!

Thanks everyone! I did make a decision, but thanks to AT&T's wonderful 30day policy I can still change my mind!

I went to the store and was impressed with both phones. My only downfall's are:

Samsung - Size! So Big! I;ve got itty bitty hands(Think of the whopper commercial...!) Also the phone locked up twice on me while at the store playing with it.. Not good.

HTC - Keyboard - The keys in landscape mode are soooo small..(Damn, I sound like a women now, complaining about size! too big, too small.......  lol j/k) also am not happy with AT&T's lock down policy and the unability to load 3rd part apps from SD Card. Gonna need to break this.

So, since I get one freebie, I chose the HTC Aria first. Mostly because I want to see how well that landscape keyboard can handle my mass amounts of emails I send all the time. If it is not working within a few weeks I will return it and grab the Samsung Captivate.

Heres the good news - Im still keeping my eXpo and going to explore using it as just a MP3 player / GPS /wifi Device. Also going to look at seding it in for warranty repair(To LG and NOT ATT) BEFORE they send me the replacement that way if they want to charge me I can just deny it and get my old phone back.

I should have the Aria tomorrow and will post my initial review of the device for everyone. Can't wait for Andriod!!! So sick of WMx
