Oh man, I just read an article about Windows Phone 7 and all I have to say is I agree. It talks about how bad the OS is and compares it to the 2007 Iphone. Here is the link to the article.

I also placed a poll on this thread asking whether you think Windows Phone 7 will fail or do great. I think it is going to be a failure and Microsoft isn't going to have the luxury of fixing it in the future to make it better option this time.

I haven't voted in the poll yet. Here's why. I think as a "Business" OS, it's a complete failure. Businesses will move either to Android or Blackberry. "Power Users" will move to Android. But commercially, the unwashed masses may buy into it. It is trying to become the social networking OS and if you can sell it to the Xbox Live market, you got a shot at doing that. Hardware will have to be impressive, it will have to out PSP the latest PSP, and on a phone. If it does, it can steal some of Apple's market share, which is how M$ would describe success. As for me, I think the eXpo will be my last new Windows OS phone. If M$ can see it as a success, I see it as a failure.

Holy scathing reviews Batman!

But seriously, the points the reviewer makes confirms some of the things I was concerned about after reading earlier articles and seeing preview pics. Just ...bad. And what was that about no multitasking with non-first party apps?! Talk about huge steps backward! Sad M$, just sad.

3 posters so far, 4 votes for fail. oh boy.

I am going to reserve not only judgement, but any interest as well until such time that information is being printed by MS themselves.

Easy to speculate an decide the outcome, how ever the proof will be in the pudding if it's trash or all that.

Watching with interest to see others gloomy forcasts, as it would be easy to go off the deep end with what we know at this point, several months away from a launch yet.

The article sounds very convincing, but it doesn't seem like the author actually played with a WP7 phone. I saw an article on mobilecrunch today and it paints a different picture.

Very nice balanced review, and hits some actual usage points the other reviewer couldn't since he didn't get his hands on an actual physical unit running the pre-release Windows Phone 7. His final summary amounts to roughly the same as the other review, just from an glass-half-full POV instead of glass-half-empty POV. Both predict eventual failure:

“I look at Windows Phone 7 ... with restrained hope. Given a bit of luck, a monumental amount of resources, and an influx of developer interest, it has the potential to be a massive success. I don’t, however, think it will be.”

I was reading a review on engadget which had states that WM7 is the most tested mobile OS ever created. With over 1/2 million hours of testing time on thousands of phones. I would have to think that after pulling the plug on other projects to put all its resources into this OS, from MS point of view it CANT FAIL.

Having said that, i think if they can incorporate apps like BING and XBOX live into the phone this will be enough to get the attention of the gamers and techy guys because the phones hardware is going to have to be top notch.  Android and iphones are kinda the cool things to have right now but i genuinely believe with a great Zune like app and some of the other points listed and Especially if it is as stable as they seem to think the OS is with all the testing. Why couldnt this be a sucess?

Maybe im too optimistic. Smiley
