Can anyone tell me how to set up so that windows media player does not add EVERY audio file on the phone but a certain directory?

I hate to listen to a song then have it play a million of my sounds/notifications/audios for installed programs like Bing...

I am not sure if this will help or not, but for myself, after scanning for media, i open the library and hand weed them out. Cheesy

The sounds i keep zipped on my storage card do not get rounded up, so i keep the majority of them zipped with total commander to avoid the issue as much as possible in the first place, though its no fix.

Looking forward to hearing what others do to avoid this.

Peace

Did not want to reply until I had my Dragon so I could verify that it was the same as my Incite. Here is the way I keep from having to listen to my ringtones while streaming music through one of my bluetooth audio solutions. I keep my ringtones in phone memory \My Documents\My Ringtones and my songs on the storage card \Storage Card\Music and then in the WMP library I select Storage Card in the pull down menu. That's as close as I could get to a specific directory. Hope this helps.

There is one other way, but it's a bit of a pain in the butt. You could move all your ringtones, message tones, etc. off the storage card and onto your computer. Open windows media player on your phone, go to Library, click menu and update library. It will scan your phone and storage card, but it will only find your music since everything else is on the computer. Once the library is updated move all the tones you placed on the computer back to where you had them located on your phone and/or storage card. Like I said, it is a bit of a pain to do especially if you are putting new music on your phone often, but it works.

I used to do this WR but the Bing app has hundreds and hundreds of 1-2 second audio files lol.

I had no problem doing it before when there were only a few from my other programs but now it's just getting tedious. And now I am afraid to go through 5000+ audio files to start weeding things out.

Honestly, I never use the Library feature because of this.

I have WMP set to open to the Library screen and almost always just go straight to:
Menu > Open File > Storage Card > My Music
and there are my tunes, and only my tunes.  Smiley

To get more than one song ready to go, just tap & hold on the ones you want and select "Queue Up" from the context menu - puts them in the Now Playing list that you can shuffle, edit, weed, etc.

To load the entire folder (currently about 100 or so songs in my case) I use a file explorer to browse to that folder, select all files and then double-tap one of them to start them playing - WMP opens automatically to play them, and everything that was selected loads into the Now Playing list.

I guess that doesn't really fix the issue with the Library, but just goes around it.

This solution may not be ideal for you, but you could also consider not using WMP altogether. There are a lot of other viable options (for example, S2P http://s2p.ac-s2.com/) ...just saying.

True there are other players, though Wmp has that nice titanium plug-in, that a few may not want to give up,

I am starting to think, two sd cards are in order, one with music and other with porn, err, I mean your apps. Wink

You know, that's not a bad idea - a dedicated memory card with just media playing apps installed on it and the rest for music/videos only - would make it easier to just scan the card for media and go.

I actually bought 2 8GB cards back before I even got my Expo with this in mind, but have just been lazy about putting everything on one card   Smiley

I wasn't aware there was a plug-in (I don't use titanium) I guess that would be a pretty big thing to take into consideration before discarding WMP  Undecided

Also, I don't think you can hot swap storage cards, I find it annoying to have to shut down the phone everytime I want to change cards to listen to a mp3 file or something. Ran into this problem with GPS software before, I just like having everything on one card, it's just more convenient and efficient IMO.

Over at XDA I saw a Titanium plug-in for Nitrogen Player can't seem to find it now though. Will post back with a link if I can find it.

Don't know if this is the same one, but looks good.

lol I went to quote you an modified your post before I realized the error of my ways, thats why it says I edited it for the record.

I don't install programs or let anything in my power, write or cache to my SD card, so hot swappy is ok for what I was thinking, though it won't be for most others in hindsight  Sad Thats why I don't have the bing issue mentioned it seems.

Using the "Home Screen Customizer" off of market place, select music as an Titanium plug in and it links to WMP. I also use its weather and apps plug in too, handy for 8 normal shortcuts, and a recently used list of apps.
(Tried most GUI's, keep coming back to Vanilla Titanium and settled on it for low overhead)

I Have a 16gb class-6 microsdhc card that works great. I install everything on the card to keep as much on board free as possible. I have all of my music in ((mp3)) directory, all the albums in specific folders (e.g. opeth - watershed, eminem - recovery etc...) and manually go in and just queue up folder by folder (hold-select, bring up drop down menu on top of folder "queue up") under the "open file" menu. Seems to work great for me! Sometimes, no matter how many times you refresh, WMP won't pick up 100% of the songs in the library, but of course they'll be there manually adding them - so that's my preferred method.
