Hello all,

I have been able to use the kitchen as described here to successfully rebuild the stock ROM (V10g - 21749) and add/remove packages without issue.  However, I've tried multiple times to port a new XIP/SYS build and every time I get the same result: the phone hangs at the orange "Windows" logo screen and won't get past it.

Can anyone point me to what I might be doing wrong?  I've checked for and corrected duplicate packages:
 - The SMS_Providers package was in the OEMDrivers folder from the ROM dump and was a SYS package on the new build, so I tried both disabling the SMS_Providers package and moving the stock one to a SYS package (so there wouldn't be a conflict)
 - The GPSID and Bluetooth (or maybe BTDUN - I don't remember which) conflicted and so I disabled (even removed at one point) those from my new SYS build

I even went as far as to write a small C# program that would analyze the new SYS directory and find ANY and ALL duplicated modules, and they all wound up being in one of the packages mentioned above.

Short of literally copying the SYS packages one at a time from the new build to the old build until I see what breaks (and even that probably won't be a good test since I'd have a "hybrid" SYS folder), I'm completely out of ideas.

My only remaining suspicion at this point (and I don't know how to troubleshoot this) is that there is something wrong with the .ROM or .VM "packages."  My new build only has a .ROM folder, not a .VM folder, and I've tried all combinations: deleting it entirely from the new SYS build as well as copying one and both folders from the dumped 21749 SYS directory, and still no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated......  Thank you!

If it is hanging at the boot screen that problem may be a bad xip.bin. Did you build this yourself or did you download it from somewhere?

Both.. sort of Smiley

I downloaded the 23103_XIP.rar from one of the file share sites (link from Da_G I think?Huh), then followed the instructions from the "How to make a xip.bin" post, then used that in the instructions in this post on XIP porting.

Is there a simpler way?  I assume porting the XIP to match the SYS is necessary, as when I leave the 21749 (from stock V10g) in there (which works when cooked with 21749 SYS), I get the same results...

Thanks...

UPDATE: I'm still not sure precisely what I was doing wrong, but you hit the nail on the head!  I hope you don't mind, but I took the xip.bin from your latest Dragonstorm ROM and used it (basically copied it to xip_out.bin under TOOLS\XIPPORT and hit 'l' -- DumpRom.exe crashed but ran long enough to generate romhdr.bin).

I went back through the build process, and lo and behold - it works!

THANK YOU for the tip!!!!!!!!  I'd still love to understand the process enough to "truly" fix it, but this works for me!  Smiley  Thank you again!!!!!

Not a problem. I've had plenty of bad xip.bin issues before. That's one of the reasons why I build my own now. Glad you were able to get it to work.

Hello Dark!

I am so happy you posted this, nice job!

I was curious if you could help me out, I get a lil thrown off at the xip.bin part where you say "Rename the xip.bin" and then the downloaded xip.bin, Am I missing a file that I must download from the add-on packages? I clicked em but the files were taken down Sad

I would really love to start cooking something up and the program looks like something I could learn But I need help at step 9 :/

Thanks in advance to anyone who gives me a hand.

The xip.bin you need to get comes from the build files that you download. Some builds don't come with the xip.bin, but does come with the files to build one. Here is a link to a tut on how to build an xip.bin.

Hello,
would someone be so kind and repost the "ADD-ON FILE" mentioned in step 13. of Dark's cooking guide, ( the one needed for IQ to be able to repack the rom into a dz file ) and also  IQ Add-on Package: ( IQ Add-on Part 1, IQ Add-on Part 2 ).
Thanks in advance !

Hello again Dark. I know you probably very busy but I just had two questions I been wondering about...

One is, other then the obvious changes in your ROMs, do you have any other noticable differences that you plan to have in later ROMs? (Other then the back end changes is what I mean)

Two, you don't plan to stop anytime soon do you? Sad

Thanks very much Dark! ALSO!!!

I thought you'd be happy to know, I was in a Starbucks the other day and as I was heading to my seat I couldn't help but notice another man there was starting up his IQ, and I saw YOUR splash screen on it... I couldn't help but look after seeing it was an IQ.

Keep on rocking man.
