WarRaven and I were talking and we may have a way to get a base rom to start cooking. Now on the IQ you guys are running the firmware v10c and the eXpo users such as myself are running v10d. If the theory is correct we may be able to acquire a base rom through the LG Updater program from an IQ user. We are not sure if it will work, but if there is anyone willing to try here is how to do it. Please keep in mind though that you do this at your own risk and we are not responsible for anything that may happen with your phone.

Instructions:
First thing you need to do is make sure your using an XP or Win7 computer. Vista and anything older than XP will not work. If you are using Win7 make sure to select Xp compatibility mode and run it as an admin. Second make sure you have a way to completely cut the power from the computer. This will have to be done before the update process begins. I'll explain why when we get to the step. Once you got the requirements for the first two steps load the LG Updater Program. Next put the phone into emergency download mode by turning it off, sliding the keyboard out, holding the space bar while pluging the usb cable into the phone. Once the program says phone connected click start update. It will do an alalysis to see if the phone needs updating. If it does it will move on to download and will download the updated rom. Once the download finishes you will need to completely cut the power to your computer or it will start the update. Once the update is finished it deletes the rom and we lose it. With my experience with the Incite the update portion of the program doesn't work, but it will still delete the rom. Once you load your computer back up there should be an .exe file in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\LGMOBILEAX\Phone for Xp or C:\Users\All Users\LGMOBILEAX\Phone for Win7. Once we have that I can extract the rom and should be able to start cooking.

This is how I got the v10x rom for the Incite before it was released on the LG website. If anyone is successful doing this please upload the file to someplace like mediafire, rapidshare, etc. and send me the link or just post it. If you have any questions feel free to ask and good luck.

I thought about that too when people were saying the updater's version was for 10d and iq users had 10c.
Not to shatter dreams but I feel as if the software updater will know the difference between the iq and expo and not allow the update. But I am hoping this works!

Sorry Dark but manelscout4life is right. I changed my region to canada in the updater and it shows the latest software it shows for the IQ is V10c. If we could find a way to make the updater think the iq GW825 is the Expo GW820 then we would be in business.

I can change the registry to have my IQ show up as GW850 instead of GW825.. as long as it holds (should hold as long as I don't reboot) and if the updater use's that method to check the device. I'll attempt it tonight, giving Tweaker a rest for now (besides, I'm stuck on the next version anyway). I'd try it here at work but there's no easy way to shut down my laptop ...other than pulling the battery Smiley

Hey guys, so I have been racking my brain as well trying to get the ROM. Basically I have a lot of experience flashing both smart and non-smart LG's from across the globe (thanks Dark for the Incite ROMs btw). In my experience all the updates are available via LG's central server via http.

For example it would look something like this
http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/WEBSW/GW820/V10d_00/V10d.dz

csmg is the server base. Basically the direct link just shoots you straight through to the ROM because in essence after the LG updater talks with the phone is just direct links to its commanded http spot.

The only problem is, there is usually a country code in the http link and I dont know what the US's is.

pbalanq over at forummobiles.com is pretty good. Here is an excerpt of the naming conventions in the http links. Here is his explanation translated from French (thanks Google)

Woodhole it looks like your method is our best bet unless some one has alot of free time to keep trying links because there is no way to view a tree. and unless I can find a file that stores the rom locations for the updater program i can't think of another way.

One of you guys with an Expo an that has downloaded the LG updater...

Go to software downloads or applications, manuals an USB drivers section, and select GW820 an put your IMEI in there, does it list the v10d rom in the update list, if so double click on it and its ours.

It seems, it will pre-download the updates/Rom's prior to actually connecting phone to it, if you put in a sn or a IMEI number, so it would be danger free to try this.

I just put mine in an pre-downloaded USB driver, give it try one of you Expo owners.

WR, you're doing better than I am.. mine refuses to connect!
Win7 in XP mode with admin rights...blah, blah, blah... and emergency download mode and still nothing.

Side note: Changed the Device ID in the registry and it held even after a soft reset!?!

I tried to do "recovery phone" and enter in my IMEI. That was all good and it recognized it as GW820. When the update process started, I thought we were home free, but as it performed its system check, I got this message "software update is not supported for this model."

Bummer. I though maybe the ROM was available on the server even under "recovery phone".

If we can figure out were the file is stored on the internet we may be able to just download it the old fashion way.

If I can get mine to connect I can have WireShark trace it back on the net... but I need to get the first step going for that to happen. I couldn't wait till I got home so I've been trying all this on my laptop with the battery removed so I could disconnect power real fast... just not having any luck. I'll try it on my workstation at home once I'm there.
