I just tried using the LG IQ Camera files instead of the files from this ROM and I no longer have the issue of 'Use' and 'Rename' not fitting on the screen.

The Photo Album behaviour is different as well.  With the 825V camera it goes straight to the 3D photo album, but with the IQ camera (probably eXpo as well) it goes to the regular Photo album.

Well I use Dark's 23568 and mine goes straight to the 3D viewer.

Ya, I think I must have been missing files for the 3D Gallery.  If I remember correctly, the stock IQ ROM went to the 3D Gallery as well.

I have been able to get this ROM running with almost all English resources.  There are still a few remnants of Chinese left, but I'm getting there.

Regarding the memory, the Total Program memory is listed as 209.68 vs. 202.xx in the stock ROM.  That could explain a majority of the increased free memory.  After a soft reset I get 95.11 MB free.

Hey Trueg... when you get this rom fully ported would you mind posting it for others to try.  I'm curious to know what 6.5 build it runs and if there are any other improvements you've noticed versus the stock expo/iq roms.  Thanks.

This ROM uses build 21891.

All I have left to do is fix up initflashfiles.dat and it will be ready to post up.

OK, give this a try.  I believe I got most of it.

There is a Chinese character that comes up when you receive a call.  I wasn't able to find where it is, it must be a resource contained within a dll or exe.

Also, the font in Google Maps is crazy small.  If anyone knows where this is set, please let me know.

I tried to change as little as possible.  Note that for some reason they cranked up the volume.  I could have changed it, but I wanted to leave it as close to stock as possible.

Oh, I also noticed that the menu in SPB News is still Chinese.  I would need an English copy of SPBNews.exe to correct that.

Included in the archive is just the ROM dz.  Use the stock Flasher for your device.  Don't forget to use the DLL that matches your device (GW825WR.dll for GW825, GW825VWR.dll for GW825V, etc etc)

This ROM should work on the eXpo and IQ.  It may or may not work on a GW825v.

Thanks for the quick port man.  I appreciate it.  I've noticed that with this chinese rom that photos actually get put in a folder on the storage card.  The other thing that I noticed is file transfers over usb work much more smoothly than the other roms.  I used to get a lot of errors.  It would tell me it could not copy the file and then it would sometimes copy the file.  These two issues were major annoyances to me and I am really satisfied with the improvements.  I hope LG gets around to giving us and updated english rom.  Maybe even a 6.5.3 rom?  I shouldn't get ahead of myself.

I also just wanted to add that my radio performance with this rom seems to be better.  I have actually got four bars when in many places and I would almost never get that before.  Also extreme fringe areas seem to lock onto what little signal is there.

@trueg nice work!

That's interesting that usb is better, it's one of the drivers that was apparently changed from the regular 825 so maybe they are aware of the issues people have been having.

The date on the DZ was may 14 2010, so it's quite recent, which is disconcerting from a 'will we get 6.5.3' perspective Sad but at least we know LG's not solely focused on winphone7 yet.

I also just wanted to add that my radio performance with this rom seems to be better.  I have actually got four bars when in many places and I would almost never get that before.  Also extreme fringe areas seem to lock onto what little signal is there.

Also interesting ... the radios differ between all three original roms but are apparently interchangeable.

The amss.mbn is actually just an elf binary (meaning you should be able to stick it in your favourite disassembler), but it's a considerable size (14 megs) so running strings over it and trying to find a version number or build date isn't reallly sane. Undecided

Does anyone with a free few hours want to do fieldtests on signal strength between the three radios? Wink

A few more notes:

I forgot to mention that I added ADC (Auto Data Config).  Mostly because I was sick of manually configuring my carrier.

VoiceCommand was not included by LG and neither was xT9, although there were several Chinese keyboards included (CEStar.cab).

Apps included (not found on eXpo or IQ):
ASPlayer (ArcSoft Streaming Player)
Band setting (switch between auto, 3G & 2G - cab posted a few days ago)
Facebook
Gypsii
SPB Apps

I also noticed a few tweaks normally found in 6.5.3 like AutoFontResize in IE and increased Treeview spacing.

Plus, there were a few changes to the GPS driver and configuration and I have found that I get a lock much quicker than before.

hared, here is a copy of the LG Flasher with GW825VWR.dll already included.  Extract the contents to
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\
in Windows XP (I'm not sure about Win 7).

Extract the GW825V English ROM (rom.dz) to
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\LGMOBILEAX\Phone\
and then run SP_Starter.exe in
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\LGMOBILEAX\SmartPhoneSetup\

It may still not work because of the differences in your flash.bin, but you never know.

Note: I attached the USB driver separately so that the Flasher will be small enough to attach to this post.  If you need it, extract the USB driver LGATOS_SPUSBDriver.zip to
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\LGMOBILEAX\USB_Driver\

Sorry hared, it may be as Dark mentioned.  Since the flash.bin on your phone is built funny it may require an updated kitchen from Spooky.
