So what exactly would the purpose of this be?  If you somehow bricked your phone or if you needed to send it back to factory after flashing a custom ROM for warranty issues or something?

Dark~ excellent work!
have you any idea how hard it will be to get 6.5.3 ported to our phone?
just excited to have my startmenu on the bottom again.. miss that :/

It really shouldn't be that hard at all. Once the kitchen is complete and tested I will post a tutorial on how to use it.

Well that is one use. This really helped igothacked to fix his phone. He couldn't get it to boot properly and it wouldn't do a hard reset either. Now he is up and running. Also this allowed me to test a way to flash custom roms. As stated in the first post the original flasher would check to see if you already had the firmware you are trying to flash. If it did (which it does since this is the stock rom) it wouldn't let you flash. I packaged it within the Incite flasher (with some mods of course) since that flasher doesn't properly do this check.

Hi Dark / War Raven & all other technical experts out there...

I really need to flash my EXPO and re-install the base ROM. I've had a major problem ever since I got the phone: No audio from rear speaker. I've tried everything you guys suggested (See the following thread : http://www.lg-expo.com/general-support/free-support-from-our-experts/msg1392/#msg1392. )....No luck so far -I've literally tried everything - from hard resets to even playing around with the Engineer's menu. I just can't tolerate my expo not making any noise what so ever. I've missed so many calls as a result. It's such a great little phone as you all know. I just can't get enough of the independent GPS (I use "Space Machine's Pocketmap" software with voice guidance - only works with car bluetooth at the moment - no data charges or internet connection - fantastic)! Unfortunately my image of the phone has been tainted by the above mentioned problem. I might be wrong, I have a feeling the audio problem is a ROM issue. I hope it's not a hardware issue! Unlike you guys - having the phone repaired under warranty or replaced is not an option as I'm in Australia.

Guys, please excuse my ignorance - but I've never flashed a phone before. I downloaded the file like you said DARK and now I've got 2 shortcuts on my desktop : LG_SmartPhone_SW_Upgrade_GW820_V10d_Ship     &      expo ROM.

I have Microsoft ActiveSync installed on my PC and I'm running XP Home. Could someone please explain what I have to do next? I didn't want to brick my phone.

Thanks and regards,

Johnny4fingers

Just run the eXpo ROM file and follow the instructions on the screen.

Dark,
When I was doing my sim unlocking I had to set my usb switching to QC Composite-DUn, DIAG, NMEA in the engineer menu port setting to convert the dz file to oct. file. This is the only way I know how to write firmware without making one to flash it. Is that true on the QC composite. Found out that I can take the decompiled parts like the apps boot, apps, flash.bin, ect. and merge them together of course invalid file is this almost cooking a rom choosing those parts to write.

Almost. Except with cooking you get rid of anything you don't want in the rom, add customizations, and repackage it for distribution. Also when you cook you can port different versions of an OS. What I think you're describing is leaving out certain aspects of the rom. During the flashing process.

For me just leave me the dz. file not the package of the custom rom. This is the only way I know to flash my phone using the Octopus box. I'll be waiting.

You can extract the dz file from the repackaged flasher using winrar.

Hi Guys

I flashed my Expo as per instructions and re-installed the base ROM. Installation went o.k.  Unfortunately the flashing didn't fix the audio problem. I am so disappointed. I just find it so hard to comprehend that my phone has suffered a hardware problem when all I was doing was playing a video file that was recorded by internal camcorder. The phone has not suffered any physical abuse by the way i.e. it has never been dropped or bumped etc..... This really was my last card.....

Sorry to say this.... I've put my EXPO away......

I'm using one of my old phones again (non WM). I miss ring tones etc...

Thank you all for your advice and support.

Regards,

Johnny4fingers.

Did you try a warranty exchange. Sounds like it is just a bad device.

Hi Dark

I got the phone from an online store unlocked...I imagine that already voids the warranty.... Also I'm in Australia. Having it shipped etc. would be time consuming, an expensive exercise and also I probably wouldn't know the location of my phone once shipped. I just don't know if it's worth the trouble.

Yeah, I believe the warranty is voided and you may have trouble getting a replacement. Sorry to hear that. It really is a great phone, but if you can't get the speaker to work and you need that then it's not worth using. Good luck though and even though your not using the eXpo don't be a stranger. Your always welcome in this community.

Don't go yet! It has happen to me but I did not not flash yet. One More Trick! If you still have your headset plug it in, play the video/audio file with it on wait a few seconds and then just power off the phone unplug the headset and then power on the power. Other than that good luck.
