Hello to you all once again.

Right off the bat, I am extremely new to making ROMs, and all I have done so far is tinkered around in the kitchen for a while trying to get to know it. But while doing so I got to thinking about something.

All the people on these forums and online definitely know what their doing on Windows Mobile, and as I have noticed in Darks Dragonstorm, people are able to make Windows mobile alot nicer, and faster then it originally was...

Bringing me to my point... Is it possible that If say enough of these experts from this site or other sites like XDA, or maybe even Lesscro for example........could make a new version of Windows Mobile.

Of course it wouldnt make a official release, but how cool would it be to keep Windows Mobile alive! There is absolutely no doubt that people still love it, and all its freedom that not even Android fully matches.

I dont know if this is just a blueprint idea that will be thrown out, or if someone will give it a shot and try to keep this Mobile legend alive....Face it here.....Windows gave up on Windows Mobile at 6.5.5....to me......their should be atleast one more to make it 7.

WHOSE WITH ME!?!?!?!?

No no no no, I mean Windows MOBILE 7 not Windows PHONE 7. I knew I would get that. I mean is it possible for people to build and tweak on the already their Windows Mobile 6.5.5? Sounds crazy I know but, To me this OS has a certain appeal, and I would love to see a more stable version released.I would love to donate to a person working on this kind of project to.

Hmm, I see...

Sounds like a lawsuit in the making.

I suspect we are already past, where we are supposed to be with WM6.5. One could almost call these latest ROMs wm7 now.

Without a change list from where we are, what is it your wanting from it?
WM is, other the new IE in WP7 already an still ahead of Wp7 in many ways, we have cut, copy an paste, WP7 does not.

WM is one of the most robust Os's out there or ever made, so what is it, your missing in particular, then go from there.

Then maybe someone could help you with what you want.

LOL Well of course we wouldn't make it a real product, we probably would just make it a more private ROM. Windows mobile is as you said very robust and ahead of the competitors in many ways. But heres a few things I can think of right off the top of my head....

I KNOW Most of this could be a application but really it would be so awesome to have that stuff on it, without needing to put more and more apps on it.

1) This would have to be the stability of some asspects, eg. Internet Explorer and many other things like the Microsoft threaded messaging thing freezing when you have over 200 texts ish.

2) The addition of more apps like a built on Wi-Fi tethering system would be fantastic.

3) A nicer INCLUDED music player that allows you to change songs from the lock screen, or as I have thought, that pop down task bar in 6.5.5 could house a lil play button for example

4) Cleaner and more crisp eye candy visuals. Lets face it, this interface looks a little bit Windows 98 styled to me, we could make things have gradients or more rounded buttons etc. would make it alot more eye pleasing.

5) Internet explorer alone needs a revamp, We shouldn't even need Opera or Skyfire because Internet Explorer mobile should do that for us.

6) This is more something I thought would be sweet but, the ability to reply to text messages within that little pop up box, or an option to allow something similar.

7) More reliable overall performance. I dont think I can put more detail into that, but it seems sometimes the OS just doesn't want to do something.

Cool Faster multitasking. I believe that Android nailed multitasking, even if it doesn't have the lil thumbnails like LG Task manager. Its fast, and it works.

9) As you also said about Dragonstorm, we should remove ALL the stuff that is never used in th OS. Thanks to dark this has I think been completed.

10) Push notifications..... I hate to admit it but I like that with Apple, when something on say Facebook happens YOU KNOW. I dont like how Apple does this (Covering the screen saying what happened) But this would be nice if it were like Android with stuff showing sometimes in the task bar.

Thats all I can think of right now but those are the main things I think would make this OS so much better. I know it would probably be a astronomical amount of work but I have full faith its possible.

Sorry if it sounds like im stupid here, but those are things that would make Windows Mobile PERFECT for me and id say alot of others. Instead of having hundreds of apps to do things that the OS should do *cough cough* iPhone *cough cough* we should include it in our ROMS.

Dragonstorm has taken care of the under the hood stuff and speed, but now Its time I would say to build on Windows Mobile

Well you have some ideas in hand atleast, that helps a lot when shooting for something.

Some good ones too.

I myself have little experience in coding, but I can get around in the registry pretty good, not that helps any here.

Usually on something like this, one has to start the ball rolling to get others interested enough to get involved.

With that said, I have seen other GUI's for WM in the past that had similiar ideas involved an became a skin more or less controlling the under lying WM itself, usually though they turn out to be ram hogs an have issues when people use the multitude of programs they may have bought an others an are installed on the top of it.

I wish you much luck with this though EG, it's a good idea.

Same, I know a....fair amount about the registry (I basically digest it in my spare time hahaha) But with coding im dead. This is why I thought here would be a good start seeing as people here are on roughly the same page.

As for what you said, I couldn't agree more about the RAM issues and apps slowing down the experience. But my theory is that if it were built closely into the system, that would increase speed (Again im NO expert, im just pitching here) But say you have an app that plugs into the music player and sort of overlays the OS, that would be slower then if it were built WITH the OS wouldn't it?

Of course this stuff is large rewriting and coding, and would require a lot of time but Im just wondering that since Windows Mobile isnt dead (to us) why not try and make it more modern and feature-ful.

One thing I also noticed with this phone is how animation is handled....Like the awesome lil ice cube for when your getting a call... After browsing the "WINDOWS" folder, I was surprised to see it wasn't one clip or video that played, but it was several dozen .png images.

If the OS works by pulling in images from the right folder, then wouldn't changing the button and look of it be easy as making the image and replacing the ones there?

Here's a glimmer of hope,. Engadget story on Zune.

They manage to strip away the GUI off of a Zune an show Windows CE, though this is being mentioned as CE 6.0 an our Mobile Windows is on CE 5+ something.

I guess there's a chance, though the screen limitation makes me think it's a pipe dream yet.

Go modders go!!

WOW That looks very very nice! Oh god I want my hands on that!

Hu... Maybe its possible, If I could get me hands on that some how, that all I would need to do is port it over somehow... Wouldnt have EVERYTHING I want but it would probably be a nice level up!

Thanks! Im going to look in on that some more Smiley
