It seems there is some type of conflict between the way LG processes keytones and the dialer in WM 6.5.x.

Many of you may have noticed that after going to WM 6.5.3 or higher, the keytones in the dialer are not played back properly.  Instead of the tone playing back for the correct length of time, it is cut off.  Sometimes the first press will work correctly, but very quickly it will start acting up.  If you hold the number down, after a 1 second delay, it will play correctly.

This happens with both the LG dialer and the default Windows Mobile dialer.

One solution is to replace cprog.exe with a copy from the original ROM (WM 6.5).  This will allow the tones to play correctly, but since this was built pre-6.5.3 GUI changes, you loose the softkeys at the bottom.  Most importantly you loose the button to bring back the keypad.

This appears to be related to how ever LG implemented their keytone option.  By design, this is supposed to allow you to have sounds other than the standard beep, like the Melody sound that is enabled by default.  If we can disable this feature, we should be able to at least get the standard beep tones to playback correctly.

Any ideas?

Hey trueg I have messed with LG's dialer sound information it is actually embedded in the registry in several locations. The Melody default waves are located in your windows directory switching them to the beeps i am guessing you are seeking to play in full length have to do with the phone settings click start---settings---personal---phone
first page there it shows Keypad and short tones long tones and off try the different options and see what it does.

Thanks TrueG Smiley

Yes, I am in the same boat, first few presses and the short tones play correctly, then begins cutting themselves off as described.
Short, long and melody, flipped them all back an forth, no joy.

Looking for a fix yet.

Thank you for the tip zalooa, but that's not the issue.  The problem is not present in your ROM since you are still using 6.5.  If you were to try 6.5.3 or 6.5.5 (or possibly even 6.5.2) you would encounter the problem I am describing.  What ever method LG uses to insert sounds other than the standard tones (generated by dpadctl.mid) is conflicting with newer versions of the phone executable (cprog.exe).  If you use the cprog.exe from WM 6.5 the problem goes away, but you loose some functionality.

I believe the best way to fix this problem (other than LG coming out with an official 6.5.3 ROM) is to find out how LG intercepts the default tones to play the custom sounds and remove/replace it.

The problem is present even with OEMMisc excluded, so the conflicting DLL or registry is in either OEMDrivers or OEMDriversHigh.

Could be the problem then since i have only used 6.5 only but i remember my fuze doing the same thing when i had 6.5.3 on it it would play them but cutoff. The thing is i get similar audible issues when i add a sound to lets say the volume up sound if my sound is too long or not just right it will loop it five times or more. it seems the sounds themselves are important i shortened the sound i had and it works way better now. but still interesting problem to resolve

I am looking at the dialer options on the phone, with Darks rom....,

I could have sworn there was some kind of option there for hearing impaired on 6.5, that is missing on 6.5.3 or the version we're running.

I fired up a older htc, mind you, its a CDMA model, an there was always an option for this TTY mode on them, that is not here on this rom, I am pretty sure I seen it under phone options on the stock rom prior to us all flashing away but I am not 100% sure.

TTY support is not part of the SYS but is included by the OEM.  Dark may have removed it on his ROM.  One of the tests that I did was the use the entire IQ OEM combined with a 6.5.3 SYS & XIP and the dialer tone problem was still there.  I didn't enable TTY, but that shouldn't be it since it wasn't enabled in 6.5 either.

If you go to start menu>settings>system and click TTY you'll find the options there.

I was just pointing out, that was missing from the dialer properties, and was curious if it had anything to do with the interrupted key tones.

Is yours cut short as well Dark?

I don't get any tones in the dialer and it really hasn't bothered me since i get the touch feedback. I noticed that if I change the tone to voice or if it is set to melody I get nothing, but if I set it to beep I get a beep for the tone. The beep tone doesn't seem to be cut short. I'm wondering if there is something I excluded from the OEM that is causing that or if it is something that is broken because of something LG did that causes it to not work in 6.5.3 and higher.

I dont know where to look myself for It, the short key tones work for the first one to three key presses, then it gets cut off on every key afterwards.

We may need to get our hands on a copy of the WM off of the new Fathom/Ally, one of them comes with Windows 6.5.x and has no LG Idles at all from a review i read on it.

Idk

I'm now working with the Fathom ROM, but I just wanted to post something that I noticed last week.

When pressing the dialer buttons via the hardware keyboard, the tone is fine.  If you go back and try a button on the screen it is clipped.  If you go back to the hardware keyboard, the first press is clipped, but after that it is fine again.  I'm assuming it will be fine once I port some of the Fathom drivers over.  I just wanted to post this observation.

hehe, I was just wondering if anyone had made a break through on that yet myself.

That's interesting info, didn't notice before as never used the hardware keypad for dialing.

Looking forward to your drivers big time Wink

I was able to fix this issue by upgrading my SYS from 23090 (SDK) to 23121 (from VS750 v5) and adding the following entry into the registry....

|HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\
"PlayDTMFOnPress"=dword:1
