The eXpo like every other WM phone comes with .Net 2.0. This is an older version than the current 3.5 or even the beta 3.7. Well you can download .Net 3.5 and install it to your phone from Microsoft. Here is the link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=E3821449-3C6B-42F1-9FD9-0041345B3385&displaylang=en

You will need to use your data cable and activesync to hook up your phone to your computer. The file runs from your computer. It will install .Net 3.5 to your phone. We aren't done yet though. Now we got to set .Net 3.5 as the default because 2.0 is still set as the default. I recommend a nice little program that was developed for the Incite that works on the eXpo to do this. It is called CT810 Tweak 1.5 created by SSeymour. You will also need mortscript to run it. Attached are cabs for both. Mortscript can also be found on the author's website at:
http://www.sto-helit.de/index.php?module=download&action=list&entry=18.

Once you have them installed you will notice that CT810 Tweak 1.5 won't be in your start menu. For some reason it doesn't appear as a shortcut on WM 6.5. To access it go to start menu>file explorer and navigate to windows>start menu>programs and run it from there. Once you have it open select Make .Net CF 3.5 default(faster) and click ok. It will then ask you to power off your device. Power it off and power it back on. Now .Net 3.5 is the default. The advantages to updating .Net are that your phone will run faster (although it may not be noticeable with the snapdargon processor) and some third party apps won't run without it.

Note: All other options with CT810 Tweak 1.5 have not been tested on the eXpo so use at your own risk.

Dark, let me ask, the CT810 can be removed after setting default CF.

It tweaks the registry an then its ok to remove?

I'm running Framework 3.7 over 3.5 right now.

Does it make 3.7 default if i chose the 3.5 framework?

Yeah. It can be removed afterwards.

It won't make 3.7 the default, but here is a cab that will. Also here is a link to .Net 3.7 beta for those that want to try it.

3.7 is the incomplete form of 4.0 I think

Yeah. 3.7 is still in beta. I ran it on my Incite and didn't notice much of a difference from 3.5.

How do I tell if it worked and it actually switched over to 3.5? I don't really notice any difference like aforementioned. (Sorry if this is a dumb question.  Embarrassed)

The versions can be found within the registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\.NETCompactFramework

It will show versions installed, the version set to "1" is the one installed in the ROM and it should show newer versions there as well. If it's not in that list then it didn't install.

Also:

*** Within the windows directory on the device look for “cgacutil.exe” and run it. This will show you the version running on your device

lol I have no idea how it happened, but somehow 3.5 got installed on my phone. Maybe it was a supplemental install for another program I installed. I used this reg key to switch over to the 3.5 though.

Yeah, some programs will install as they need it to run, though, its not set to default to it for other things like PIE etc...

I was suprised too, i thought if it was installed, we were good to go, but no-go.

Yeah. Unfortunately when Microsoft coded the cab that installs to the phone they neglected to include a reg edit to make it the default. Why they would do that is beyond me, but at least with a little searching the tweak was found.

One interesting thing happened in the testing of a program today (compass program I was trying out)  that required NET 3.5.  I had already installed 3.5 and enabled it and verified it was running a few days ago by running the cgacutil app in the windows directory.  Well, after loading this compass program i clicked on it and it said my version of NET was not the right one to let this program run.  I ran cgacutil again to see what version was running and it was back to NET 2 version.  Now I have not hardreset my phone only soft reset it a few times so it was my understanding NET 3.5 should have stuck..all I had to do was to run CT810 Tweak again and set it to 3.5   After doing that (and shutting down my phone) the NET 3.5 was enabled and even stuck after soft reset...and compass program was able to run.

Anyone else have this issue with NET 3.5 not staying enabled?  I wonder what would have caused it to revert back to the 2.something version?

That is weird. Are you using Woodhole's tweaker program. If you are maybe you accidentally set 2.0 to the default. If not then it may have been some sort of fluke. After all these Windows Mobile phones aren't perfect and do have their glitches, yet i love them so.
