@Phatride: Thanks for the info.

@Dark: The update page for this on LG's site specifically mentions Vista when it says "....after finish s/w update restore your data by ActiveSync [Windows Vista use Mobile Device Center]"  This would lead me to believe that just like when my Tilt went from WM 6 to 6.1, a firmware upgrade from the OEM can be done on my Vista box. And I was wondering: if that is true, can you possibly tear apart this updater and use parts of it to make a flasher that is Vista-compatible?

I can give it a go, but I will need someone to test it since I don't have a Vista box anymore.

EDIT: Good news. I removed some of the files in the flasher that the v10g stock rom was packaged with so now that it can't properly check the s/w version installed on your phone. This means we can flash all we want with this new flasher. Supposedly this flasher is suppose to work with Vista. I can't check this claim since I no longer have a Vista box, I upgraded to win7. I'm going to upload the latest Dragonstorm rom in this new flasher and post a link for those with vista to try. Please though:

IF YOU HAVE VISTA AND DON'T HAVE A XP OR WIN7 MACHINE I ASK FOR YOU NOT TO TRY THIS UNTIL IT IS CONFIRMED. IT MAY RESULT IN YOU PHONE NO LONGER WORKING. IF YOU DO TRY IT IT IS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Here is the link:

Dark, you will SO be my hero if this works. I'm planning on installing that XP console this weekend (finally have one off!) so I have a plan B just in case, then I'll be your huckleberry ;-)

I am on a serious decline here lol, lost the hard drive in my vista tower this week, wife scooped/stole my XP laptop a month ago and now I am my Ubuntu laptop or I would try this too.

Curious how it goes.

OK. Got Vista up and running on my laptop. Gonna download the rom now. I'll let you know.

Edit: Oh this is gonna take a while. Tethering over bluetooth.

AWESOMENESS

Thanks for volunteering for guinea pig duty VG!

Did you run into any menus/errors/screens/steps/etc. that were unique to doing it on Vista?
Also, were you using a 32 or 64-bit version?

Thanks,
RC

EDIT: Wait, now I'm confused - did you flash the straight V10g upgrade or Dark's test flasher with the Dragonstorm ROM?

I used a fresh, full install of Vista Home Premium 32 bit (pre-SP1). I installed no updates or programs. I put the eXpo into EDM and Vista wanted to install drivers for it but I did not let it. I started the update exe, which could not detect the eXpo. I installed the included USB driver from there and then ran the update. It took almost 35 minutes to complete, but was as simple as
running the exe and following the directions.

Edit: Sorry if I was unclear earlier, I was using LG's update exe. I tried to d/l Dark's flasher test but the best I can achieve is 10 kb/s download speed. It will be faster to wait until I get home and use my broadband connection for that.

Edit #2: Downloading Dark's flasher test rom now. 40X the speed I was getting while tethering.

Update. I was unable to get Dark's test flasher to work. It installed OK but after the message of a new version (V10G available) I get an error message that is mostly question marks. I thought of making sure the flasher installed to the same place, I tried deleting the LGMOBILEAX folder, I made sure it was installing into the same folder. The LG flasher does not run after I installed avast anti-virus. I have one more idea to try to get it to work. Will post back later.

Edit: It wasn't the anti-virus. Don't know what it was, was surfing in that "bay" without protection. Re-imaged to a fresh install of Vista. LG's flasher is running again.

@vanillagorilla Don't know if I misread your post or not, but did you flash your Expo via bluetooth or USB?

Got Dark's rom flashing now. Ran the LG flasher to the point where you click start update. I copied Dark's rom into the phone folder and renamed it to match the LG rom. Back in LG's updater I clicked start update. Stuck at 25% for the last 15 minutes. Didn't crash, just got stuck.

Edit: Laptop re-booted while still stuck at 25%. Running LG rom update.

Edit #2:  Successfully flashed LG V10G again. So there is Vista compatibility, I can test more if someone has an idea what needs to be changed in the flasher. Takes me 5 minutes to switch from on OS to the other. I may even install the Vista drive in my USB drive housing so I can just boot from it to test.

Successfully flashed the LG V10g ROM update last night using my Vista Ultimate 32-bit SP2 machine. Followed the same steps VanillaGorilla listed above except I downloaded and installed the LG Software Updater utility and then installed the USB drivers ahead of time. No problems at all. Took about 33 minutes start-to-finish.

Initial findings:

1. Fingerprint sensor does seem to be more responsive and accurate.

2. Have not had any problems at all with Opera Mobile 10 or Mini 5 yet.

3. Signal strength does seem a little better.

4. Doing a Sprite restore and forgetting to uncheck the "System files" option = BAD IDEA. Yay for hard resets.

5. Does NOT fix the MMS issue receiving from a Pantech Impact -still slowed phone to a crawl, but didn't freeze up to the point that I couldn't open a task manager and kill the MMSTranportLoader process like before. May have discovered a workaround for us on that....more later after some more testing.

6. Camera preview does seem a touch "grainier" in the preview before snapping the shot, and FPS as I panned around seemed to lag a bit, unlike before. Picure taken, when opened for review seemed just slightly lower quality than before with a little digital color scatter on dark items. To be fair though, I only tried in low-light nighttime conditions. Will try again in full daylight and report back.
