Initial findings:

1. Fingerprint sensor does seem to be more responsive and accurate. - Still good.

2. Have not had any problems at all with Opera Mobile 10 or Mini 5 yet. - Still good.

3. Signal strength does seem a little better. - Still good, however with the bluetooth issues I am now having and the FM radio issues mentioned above, I'm wondering if the radio chage in the ROM upgrade wasn't a mixed blessing....

4. Doing a Sprite restore and forgetting to uncheck the "System files" option = BAD IDEA. Yay for hard resets.

5. Does NOT fix the MMS issue receiving from a Pantech Impact -still slowed phone to a crawl, but didn't freeze up to the point that I couldn't open a task manager and kill the MMSTranportLoader process like before. May have discovered a workaround for us on that....more later after some more testing. - Still an issue, and worse now: the changes to the mms client no longer gives us the option to reject mms messages on a one-at-a-time basis - we either have to reject all, or beg the people with the kind of phones that cause this problem not to ever send us a mms! The workaround I was testing out allowed me to reject a mms from my fiance's Pantech Impact, but also kept me from sending out a mms myself, so not really a good solution.

6. Camera preview does seem a touch "grainier" in the preview before snapping the shot, and FPS as I panned around seemed to lag a bit, unlike before. Picure taken, when opened for review seemed just slightly lower quality than before with a little digital color scatter on dark items. To be fair though, I only tried in low-light nighttime conditions. Will try again in full daylight and report back. - Daylight testing shows that while the preview is still a touch grainier and lower FPS/not as smooth as before in low light, in daylight it's just fine. Opening up pictures taken on my laptop, there's no perceptible difference between pictures taken before the upgarde and those taken after.

I found this thread because I wanted to pull a movie off my expo tonight, and realized I'd never installed a driver to connect my phone via my XP laptop. So I went to the LG site and found the update that is the topic of this thread. I just wanted the USB driver, but then I realized I should search this forum about the update, and so here I am.

Read through the whole thread, and maybe it's just because it was a long hot day, but I can't seem to understand what anyone is talking about anymore. For a developer and IT director, this is scary stuff. Has my brain reached capacity? Soon I'll be yelling at you kids to get off my lawn.

Not too long ago (OK, 6 years ago) I was flashing ROMS to my Sony Ericsson and tweaking the hell out of it. But I'll admit that every time I run across a ROM mentioned on this forum, I've never found a compelling reason to even consider one for my expo. It's mostly the terminology and ROM names being thrown around (what's Dragonstorm?). OK, I'll admit I'm not searching the forum as thoroughly as I should - but in any case the barrier to entry to hacking my expo seems miles higher than previous phones. Things seemed so much easier back in the ClieSource days!

Whatever - sorry for the TL;DR. So I tried to install just the USB driver, and forgo the v10g upgrade (I probably won't have the nerve to deal with all the reinstallations until the fall - it's too busy in the summer for me). But it didn't work. All I want to do is see access my phone like a drive via USB, like on my previous winmo. I had to run the upgrade program, and only after not finding your phone attached does it give you the option of installing the driver. Which failed - or rather, upon successful installation - my phone is still not recognized when I plug it in. Is this one of those times where I shouldn't have plugged it in until after the install?

So, any tips on what I can do? And should I do the upgrade? I can't determine if it will improve my phone or not, and doesn't sound like it's worth the hassle.

severalpeople, myself included, have issues with active syncv and sync center. Sometimes it will work other times you will spend hours trying to get a connection. The only way I can sync consistantly is by using a bluetooth dongle. Unfortunatly, you cannot flash via bluetooth. I started a thread on this forum a while ago (Cannot sync to PC) for more info.

ASK, do you have ActiveSync installed?  The eXpo doesn't have a USB mode like some other WinMo devices.  In order to copy files to your phone you either need ActiveSync installed (Windows Mobile Device Center in Vista/7) or use a MicroSD adaptor and access the memory directly.

I've heard the LG Fathom has a USB mode option, so it might be possible to port that over once we get a copy of a ROM from that device.

Thanks, that explains a lot!

ActiveSync is on my Vista desktop. Will I be able to browse it as an external drive there though? (Sorry, too hot/muggy/lazy to go upstairs and boot and try!). I've only synched up there once, when I got the phone; I actually rarely use ActiveSync at all.

I've been trying it out on my eXpo for connecting to gMail recently, though I'm probably going to stop doing that - don't like the unchangeable Outlook label for exchange connections (also, my gmail doesn't seem to arrive instantly, though it's set to "as they arrive"). Even worse - I was enjoying synching my google calendar through ActiveSync, but just a little while ago, I started getting a message:
Quote
There has been a change made on your server that requires you to re-synchronize all items on your device. All changes made since your last successful sync will be lost. Do you wish to continue?

WTF? I tap No, because I have no idea at this moment of figuring out what I will lose! So, yeah. I can live without ActiveSync (on the phone) altogether at this point.

Sadly, that only makes the ActiveSync issues with the v10g update less relevant to me.

No need to worry. It did the same thing to me. I usually just let the program connect my phone to my computer and just close the sync center. After that I go to my computer and my phone appears under there as an external drive. It will even split it between my phone and my memory card.

cool, thanks.

can I ask you to clarify what you meant by "It did the same thing to me."? sounds like you were replying to that error message I quoted, which was admittedly tangential - and it's confusing because I was referring to both ActiveSync on the phone, as well as on Vista.

Yeah. I was referring to that error message. I think it was because I upgraded to the V10g firmware.

...which I haven't done yet.   Tongue  I shouldn't have asked!

I was just complaining about the ActiveSync on my eXpo, which is still V10d. So I guess it can have issues on both versions. Thanks for that piece of info. What I'd love to know is how to deal with the message, and what I'm at risk of losing. (Not that that has anything to do with the V10g upgrade.)

I went ahead and clicked yes and canceled it before it could do anything and haven't seen the message since.

If you change enough stuff, Active-Sync will want to re-sync with your exchange server.

It is a normal process, example, go into a exchange email account delete a bunch of emails or move them to another folder, then tap on the Active-sync and it will fire up telling you a change has been made on your account that needs to be updated.

It's trying to keep up with what ever goes on in the exchange account, your contacts an calender, change something in one of these categories and it will auto update in the background normally, just on larger changes on either end will it jump to top and ask if it can re-sync again.

Make a back up, a full phone back up, restore it, and in a minute or two, it will ask same thing, that a change has been made and needs to be synced again, even though you restored it wants to see it itself.

Hope that makes some sense, still a little groggy from last nights bday party Cheesy

Peace
