well, after 2 weeks, it was time to truly use the expo's bluetooth in my car (have an alpine iva-w505 with kce-400bt bluetooth adapter)

well... streaming music quality was not as clear and volume much lower than my old fuze, so i googled and found a thread over at xda talking about the HD2 having the same issues (both are widcomm stacks). in that same thread, which i would link, but can not refind, there was a cab file containing some registry tweaks that have been giving good results. so i tried it, and well, what my wife told me as i was talking to her from inside my car was priceless...

"you don't sound like you're eating your phone anymore!"

and volume was a bit better streaming music, not as loud as i'd like, but better than stock, so i'd figure i'd attach it to see if it works for anyone else.

update... found the link

Awesome find. Tried it out and there is definitely a difference. I will include this tweak in all future roms. Thanks.

I can report that it did make a difference even with my mono BT headset. 4 different callers said so, and one even said "Wow, you sound like yourself again!". Great find Godashram!

Very excited about this.  The newb needs a little help though.

I've installed the .cab and done a soft-reset, where do I go to check to see if the .cab install "stuck", or whether doing the soft-reset caused the phone to revert back to it's orginal BT .cab file?

TIA

This cab does not actually install or modify any files; it simply makes some registry changes. You can go into the registry editor of your choice to see if the following keys look like this:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Widcomm\Plugin\AV]
"LineSpeed"=dword:00000140
"SubBands"=dword:00000008
"Blocks"=dword:00000010

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt]
"ReplStoreCacheSize"=dword:00001000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS]
"EnableCache"=dword:00000001
"CacheSize"=dword:00001000

P.S. There are no "cabs" on your phone, per se. A cab is simply an installer package that contains program files, shortcuts, and/or registry edits, just like an installation package on your PC might. The actual Bluetooth drivers are .dll files located in the \Windows folder.

Remember that thing I said about being a newb  Cheesy

I need a little more hand holding than "registry editor of your choice"

Where do I access the registry editor?

My bad.

I don't think the stock ROM comes with an editor, you'll need to download and install one. I'd suggest Total Commander because it's both a registry editor and powerful file system manager. I've attached the cab to this post.

Once you install and launch it, you'll see a \\Plugins folder at the top of your root folder (the one which contains all your folders like Windows and Storage Card). Choose the registry plugin and you'll see three options, HKLM (which stands for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, the one we're interested in for now), HKCU, and HKCR. You can Google those terms if you want more info on them. At that point it's  just a matter of navigating to the particular keys you're checking on, by drilling down through the subfolders in the same order that they're listed in the previous post. For example, HKLM/Software/Microsoft/.NET Framework/3.5.xxx means you'd select the HKLM folder, then the Software folder, then the Microsoft folder, then the .NET folder, and finally the 3.5.xxx key. Once you select a key, its value will appear onscreen.

Hope this helps

So that's the only way to check if this new BT file has "stuck"?

Same deal as the Internet Sharing .cab, what am I doing wrong on the install that I have to re-install every time I do a soft-reset?

Again, you're not installing or modifying any actual files, just making changes to the registry -- think of them as changes to the system settings. From your last post in the other thread, I think you may be confusing .exe files -- which are applications -- with cabs, which are just installer packages. Very difficult to troubleshoot that problem remotely, so I'll just suggest that you try a copy of Chainfire's Internet Sharing driver, which I've attached to the post. If it works at all, please soft reset and try it again. Shortcut will be IntShrUI.lnk located in your Start Menu topmost directory.

After soft-reset, I went to re-install the .cab file, and Windoze asked if I wanted to re-install over the exact same file name, which implies to me that it "stuck", so I'm OK on the BT front.

Thanks!

just a small update... if anyone knows how to edit a cab file... changing linespeed to 350 made a HUGE improvement to my car's bluetooth. it's set to 320 in the cab i linked.

there was less breakup speaking to my wife than before (and a hell of a lot better than stock)

for reference, may car is running an alpinr iva-w505 with the kce-400bt bluetooth module (from parrot).
