I recently found an app in the windows directory that will show you the information on the satellites your gps is currently hitting as well as the strength of the connection and some other info as well. This is not an app you can get to from the start menu from what I've found, so it makes me wonder what other apps are hidden in the phone.

In the phone's windows directory the app is called "GPS Viewer". Interesting to watch when you're in range of the satellites.

Funny you should mention this app. The device use's A-GPS and I'm trying to figure out how to disable it. I have Tomtom 7 installed on mine but no matter what variant of configuration I've tried it won't connect to the GPS (All other GPS apps work just fine). I've done my homework and it seems TomTom will not work with A-GPS and it needs to be disabled. If this device was any of the HTC's it already be disabled but no such luck. Might be stretching here but I'm wondering if this hidden app has anything to do with it?...sorry...just me thinking out load  Cheesy

Well I found another app that might help with that. I found it after the GPSViewer. This one is called gpsOneApp. You can tweak all sorts of settings for the gps in this app. I even found one that sets how accurate it is. I haven't messed around with it much, but I plan on it.

The Incite had the GPSViewer app too. I don't know why they didn't provide a shortcut to this like they did with the Incite. Anyway I found this too last week exploring the windows folder. It's nice to be able to see what satellites your picking up.

I just went and added my own program menu shortcut for the app. They love to hide normal programs/functions from users for some reason. It was like how they disabled the GPS camera mode in the Tilt when that first came out. I had to go in and change a registry setting to use it. They could've just as easily left it turned on. The GPS viewer and config app could've been placed in the Tools section.

This is one of the many programs used in the enigeering menu, explained how to get to in http://www.lg-expo.com/index.php?topic=141.0 that post. The menu is really cool, has some really useful diagnostics tests and cool/useful other things to look at... Be careful if you dont know what youre doing, there may be a way to mess up your phone in there im not really sure whats accessable there.

I stuck a shortcut in tools as soon as I found it. That's where it was on the Incite and seems like it should be there.

Same thing here Dark, nice short cut to have.

I also set my GPS set up for slightly quicker access and cut the radius from 50 to 10 meters areas.

Yeah, i have to say, if your nervous or not really sure, stay out of the advanced gps settings.

I changed those settings too when I found the app. The changes work really well in google maps, but bing is still off. Then again their maps are even older than google's so I wouldn't expect too much out of it. In GM it's damn near right on top of where I was standing outside of my office building, but bing showed me on the other  side of the building.

Which app allowed you guys to change the radius setting? Was it the GPSone app?

Wood,

A-gps was not disabled in the htc's but access to it was blocked until the Touch Pro 2, I always used cooked rom's that removed the carrier block (they wanted you to use fee based Navigation programs like Tlus Navigator) You can shut the access to the a-gps off in the MW phone settings for privacy but I just looked and it is not available in the current Telus IQ release. it was something like GPS on, off or 911 only or something like that.

Seedguy, thanks for the FYI... I figured as much but it's always nice to get it confirmed.
In messing around the registry as much as we have you'd figure we'd have found something by now but not yet.
I ended up using iGO8 as it fly's on this device but I still miss Tomtom.
