Has anyone used the built in Remote Desktop Mobile app that comes with our phones?

How does it work?  Do you have to have specific versions of Windows to make this work?  Any tips?

I don't have an eXpo (yet -- still evaluating whether it's worth the extra cost, since my upgrade period doesn't start until April  Huh ), but I've used the remote desktop software on my Fuze (WM 6.1) and it works fine.  It's just like remote desktop on a desktop computer -- when you connect to a Windows computer, that computer's display appears on yours and your interactions (clicks and keystrokes) go to that computer.  The only kicker is the very limited screen real estate on your phone versus what's on the remote computer: it doesn't scale the remote display so that you see the whole screen rendered in lower resolution; instead, it changes the resolution the remote computer thinks it has available to what's on your phone.  That means that large windows will be shrunk and have scroll bars, and not all the icons on your remote desktop may fit.

That said, however, it works great, and there's something kind of magical about being off in the middle of nowhere and running your home or office desktop computer on your phone screen!  Wink

I use mine with a Windows XP computer, but I think it should work with Vista as well.

For what I have now read, you need to have business version of Win7 or Vista to use this.

I have Vista 64 home premium on my home machine, and it only has the "Allow Remote Assistance connections" option under the remote options.

Am I wrong, am I missing something?

No, Stimpson, i lied, i thought i logged on with Vista, i did Seven on my desktop, an then did it again, seven on my laptop thinking i had used Vista on it.

I just tried it again using Vista on my Pc an my laptop, no luck, i didn't screw around much with them, but it wasn't like Seven an almost instant on both the Pc an Lappy.

Sorry my bad i led you astray brother.

It really just depends on how you have your networking setup on the computer you want to access. I have used the windows mobile remote desktop on an XP machine, but in order to do so you have to make sure remote connections are turned on and that you have all of your firewall and router settings correct. With my wireless router I had to put my home pc in the DMZ so I could access it with my isp's IP address. It worked fine though. I actually prefer using LogMeIn though. You sign up for a free account, add your computer to the account, sign in through your phone's web browser, and remote the pc. The bad part of using the windows mobile remote connection is like what WarRaven said about it messing up stuff on your pc's desktop. I found that everything gets resized to fit on your phone when you connect and when I would get back on the pc I'd have to resize everything. You don't have to do that with the logmein.

Also when you login from your phone, the LogMeIn will install a remote client on your phone so you can use the service. It redirects you to "LogMeIn for PDAs"
