I think AT&T did something to Internet sharing. I installed another version of internet sharing found on xda and it works and connects fine. In fact I'm writing this post using it right now. Can anyone with AT&T confirm this?
They did do something to the ICS. I'm using it fine on my win7 x64 laptop. There's another thread in the forum (can't remember which one though) that shows a registry key that you have to change and once you make the change, you can use the ICS. Basically the ICS is pointing to the AT&T ISP connection by default in the registry that would only be usable if you have a tethering plan. Once you change it to MEdiaNet it will work fine.

I think the reg key is \HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings

Under the key ForceCellConnection I have mine set to MEdia Net
If it is set to AT&T ISP GPRS, change it to MEdia Net (just like it's set in your connections) and you should be able to use it fine after that.

Thanks. I saw that thread and changed it and it works fine now. I guess it's one of those things AT&T was trying to do to keep people from tethering without a plan, but they failed to realize that it can be changed very easily by anyone determined enough to get it to work.

It's the same as what they did with locking down MEdia Net settings. Hell I knew more about the settings than the AT&T rep did before I found your cab for unlocking the settings. It seems they're only doing this on newer smartphones though. My tilt didn't have MEdia Net blocked and it didn't have the ICS tied to the ISP GPRS either.

They locked down MediaNet on the Incite, but Internet Sharing was something new. On the Incite there was an connection option in the Internet Sharing program. It was set to ISP GPRS by default, but you were able to change it within the program.

Doesn't AT&T charge you extra for doing this?

I dont understand why people think AT&T charges for tethering. I bet most of you all are paying the $30 for web also, or not using 3G and using wifi.  As long as you dobt tell AT&T you are doing it they dont no, (and don't volunteer  information to them) I only pay $10 for unlimited medianet, and i get the full web and at 3G speed.  I have had this for over 2 years and they havent noticed (I have the LG Incite) and before that i used my sony phone to tethered to my laptop.   And i use utorrent to download movies while im on the road.

You're right. As long as you don't tell AT&T they have no clue. They have a tethering plan for those that are willing to pay them extra for this. However the one advantage with the tethering plan is less traffic since they use AT&T ISP connection rather than MediaNet. There is less traffic because ISP is not used as much as MediaNet.

After running Woodhole's Tweaker, was able to use Internet Sharing via USB no problem at all, but cannot get bluetooth PAN (which is my preferred connection method - phone can be charging) to set up with my Vista laptop no way, no how.  Anyone have any luck with this? Does the older ICS cab Dark posted above revert it back to the older configuration, like 6.1?

Thanks Dark, I'll give that a go :-)  Doesn't switch it to isp.gprs over MediaNet, does it?

Should I add it to Tweaker?Huh

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings]
"forcecellconnection"=dword:00000000

 Tongue

Edit: Ok, I’m confused…

Tweaker already has this…

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings]
"Forcecellconnection"= "MEdia Net"

Should this be another tweak alltogether or toggle the current one (between USB/Bluetooth)?

Yep, clear as mud!

Didn’t think you could have a String value OR a DWord value in the same reg. key….lol. Guess I’m still learning Smiley
I'll update Tweaker to use either or... then off to beta testers... again...

Thanks Jug6ernaut

I have:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings]

    "Forcecellconnection"= ""

That is, it is BLANK.

In Internet Sharing/Network Connections, there are 3 possibilities

    ATnT ISP GPRS
    MEdia Net
    Video Sharing

This is where I select "MEdia Net".

On the topic of plans.....
I was forced to upgrade to the $30 (pda) plan when I purchased a new smartphone through AT&T.  My understanding is that it may be possible for AT&T to detect (or suspect) "tethering" based on usege.  My statement clearly shows the 30+ minutes of streaming internet radio that I do every morning....  (WunderRadio through Motorola S-9 HD Stereo BT headset)
