Hello!

First of all, I would like to say thank you for the hard work.  This program is great.

That said, I have to be a bit of a negative Nancy.  Perhaps someone else has run into this issue and I simply missed it, but something about this program decreases my 3g performance.  I have tried turning off the edit that deals with Medianet to no avail.

Interestingly enough, this same issue occurs with each of the 3 of Dark's roms I have installed, so I am almost positive it is one of the registry tweaks.  This issue goes away when I reflash to OEM or uninstall the app.

Any ideas?

Hey Fayld,

I suspect it be the “WM 6.5 Performance boost” as it does a bunch of tweaks all at the same time and is in all of Darks ROMS (that I know of).
You may want to bypass that one and see how it works. I’ve never heard anyone complain about it before but that might be because no one noticed it before. If so, good catch! I run the IQ on Telus and can’t say I noticed any difference between stock and tweaked but then again mine never stayed stock for long…lol.

Thanks for the reply!

Just for the troubleshooting purposes (should you choose to do so in the future, not a request or anything lol).  It actually occurred before I put the one time performance boost on.

That was the first thing I thought of when I installed it was that it might have been that.  So, I re-flashed with the OEM 10g rom (more about that gawdawful update in a different post rofl) and installed and didn't do anything with the app.

The bars were still lower.

This might be something where if there is a way that I can check the connection strength numerically, I could give you a better description than "I had 3 to 4 bars and dropped to 1 to 2 bars."

All that aside, I want to be crystal clear about this.  This is NOT a complaint.  Just an observation.  I absolutely love the app and have found that it improves my phone experience greatly.  The registry tweaks spare me a ton of work every time I re-flash / hard reset and I can't even tell you how much I like the addition of the rotation manager.  I have never found a rotation manager I particularly liked meaning I had to hard code them all in my registry.  Not fun.  This app is an absolute life saver.

So, I don't know if you have a donation paypal link or not, but if so send it to me Cheesy

Fayld,

The program is actually written in VB using Visual Studio 2008. There's nothing really complicated in it that should cause anything with signal strength. It does however run on .Net 3.5 and the last time I checked the stock ROM's only came with .Net 2.0 (correct me if I'm wrong). I assume you had to install .Net 3.5. Did the signal strength change then?

Most of the Admins (back when we first released the current version) were beta testers for this app and I'm sure at least one of them would have ran into the same problem... or one would at least think so....lol. I haven't taken your posts as complaints, just trying to narrow down what it could possibly be. With over 900 downloads of the current version, you are the first one to point it out.

As for a donation, no need. This was my pet project not only to help out others but help myself in the process. I hated having to go in and tweak this phone manually so I figured if I could use it then why not share it Smiley

It will probably help if I re-flash tomorrow and take screen shots.  It is probably nothing more than an optical illusion Cheesy

Far more knowledgeable people than I beta tested this, so it might just be in my head Smiley

Hah!  I think I might, indeed be an idiot.  The item that made the change I am describing was the taskbar override.  So, it is probably just an icon difference rather than a real difference.

I actually went through change by change to find it and that was where I found the difference I was looking for.  I am guessing the difference is completely perception driven given that the original icon set has a 4 bar indicator and the override has a 6 bar override.

Thanks for your patience.  Glad it is my stupidity rather than the app because I love the app!

Nice catch Fayld, you're no idiot cause you figured it out Wink

I've noticed when using some non LG taskbar icons they tend to show a different state than the LG versions do. I often wondered if the LG ones were done that way to show more signal then there really was? The other thing I did notice and you may run into is that in some of the 3rd party icons specific to the battery when showing the % of battery remaining some would be off by 1%. Not a big deal but on a fully charged battery the phone always looked like it was only 99% charged. A simple tweak of the registry fixed that one Wink

Glad you got it figured out Smiley

I am not sure the % being off is the icon set.  There are a number of times where my phone has been charging to the point where it should be sitting at 100% but is at 99 or 98% and I have always used the stock icons.

I actually like the thinner bars.  Because there are more of them, I think they are intended to present a better snapshot of the signal strength than is possible with only 4 bars.  I might be totally off on that, but that would be my guess.  Then again, I could see LG making visual eye candy with the sole intention of making me think my phone has better signal strength than it does.  The almighty dollar rules all lol.

Edit:
I actually decided to test the download speeds from Dark's build and 10g build.  Dark's build had significantly higher mps rates than the 10g build.  The lowest test I ran with Dark's build was still over 150 kps faster than the 10g build.  The normal speed displayed a far larger difference.

So, basically I am saying that whatever changes were made to the registry appear to have had the desired effect and then some!

The little phone that could...

Being a long time software engineer and administrator I've come to expect a lot from my personal devices. They need to be an extension of me. Our beloved LQ Expo/IQ with all its quirks that we as a community have fixed did its part for the past year and a half. Sadly mine has past away. The little phone that could, will no longer be... for me anyway. Time to move on and move with technology but once you've tasted the wrath of the Snapdragon, nothing short of it will do. Thank you little phone for being a valued tool in my everyday life.

What does this mean to the Tweaker app?... the unreleased T3 will wither away never to see the light of day as a release. I will however continue to support the current version of Tweaker for those that need it.

It's been fun Smiley
Thanks to all those that contributed to this little app that helped make this phone that much better.

I finally found everything I needed to re-install, so I flashed my phoine with the latest Stock AT&T ROM (never had even updated to that from the original ROM), and started from scratch.  It fixed the problems I was having, but the Tweek for putting the Comm Manager on the Clock panel is not working.  If I select that, I get an error: Value cannot be null. Parameter Name: value and an extremely long list of where the error occurs in the program, whcih is obviously when it tries to set a registry entry.

I did install .NET CF 3.5 from the official Microsoft distributable rather than the download here.  Everything else seems to work, so I don't think that's the problem.  Haven't seen any messages about it not working on this ROM (though I didn't go bach through the whole thread).

I even went as far as to uninstall and re-install.  No joy.

Any ideas?

Answering my own question:  Registry was locked.  Don't remember if I had to unlock or not first time.  Phone wasn't new to me, so maybe not.

Used CERegEditor to unlock it and all is fine.

Hey Sandshark, sorry for the late reply. I'm not on here much since my phone died and I moved on to Andriod (Kinda miss WinMo).

To be honest I didn't know the registry could be locked or we'd of had a lot more issues with Tweaker. I wonder if it's specific to the last Stock AT&T ROM? Most of us migrated to aftermarket ROM's  and I can confirm that none of those were locked (or the original LG ROM's for that matter). Glad you figured it out and thanks for sharing Smiley
