Expo/IQ Tweaker

With the advent of Darks awesome new Rom's, both the Expo and IQ rom's have been tested and work without issues. The one thing to point out is that Dark has added some of the tweaks into those rom's so some of the check box's will already be checked off (this is normal for those rom's).

Current version: 2.00 .Net3.5 (Mar. 12, 2010)
(see install instructions if you were using version 1.00 - 1.01 .Net2.0)

In this release the following registry edits can be enabled and disabled (toggle mode):

* New Section for Autorotation:
- Auto rotation (all)
- Create application dependent reg. keys for autorotation (on/off)

Reg. tweak list continues to grow:

- Enable call recording feature
- Enable extended ringtones
- Replace redundant alarm feature to comm. manager on today screen (New: selectable comm. between LG and X2)
- Increase screen sensitivity
- Improved touch response
- Set .Net 3.7 as default (if installed)
- Set .Net 3.5 as default
- Enable Cleartype in landscape
- Increase IE performance
- Enable IE smooth scrolling
- Adjustable Keypad backlight delay (5-60 sec)
- Disable proximity sensor
- Disable A-GPS
- Disable LG dialer (Defaults to WM)
- Disable Startup animation (frees up mem. But takes longer to boot)
- Disable LG Taskbar override (Thanks to Jug6ernaut)
- Editing of MediaNet settings
- Enable tethering (Expo only, grayed out on IQ)
- Enable threaded SMS/MMS (IQ)

Also Oneshot or one time registry edits (disable redundant features not available on the device/enable disabled features). I've also added a re-do button for those that suspect these reg. tweaks were not successfully created (they can be reapplied). This feature will also be handy if any of these tweaks need to be modified in the future (previous version - once tripped, you could no longer re-do tweak).

- WM 6.5 Performance boost - (thanks to Dark and WMX)
- Free mem. (Replication) - (thanks to Dark and WMX)
- Disable infrared scanner
- Disable smartcard
- Disable software disable
- Enable missing sound notification options - (thanks to Dark)

More to be added as we find them.

Install instruction:
Requires .Net 3.5 framework installed, I've simplified the instructions, download the NETCFv35.wm.armv4i.cab file and install it.
* The Expo and IQ by default (OEM Rom's) only come with version 2.0 so you will need to install this update. Newer Rom's almost all come with .Net 3.5 or .Net 3.7 so you can skip this step.
* The .pdf instructions don't reflect the simplified instructions yet.

InstallEITweakerN35.CAB at the bottom of this post.
* for those running the older Expo\IQ Tweaker in .Net 2.0, please remove it unless you like the idea of running both an old and current version of the same thing (nothing is removed from older versions, I just add to the list of tweaks). In 'Remove Programs' it will be labeled "OGTech InstallEITweakerN20"

Instructions are simple:
As Tweaker continues to grow so do the instructions and this area is consuming to much space. For those that need it, please download the instructions file called TweakerV2.pdf. A new section has been added for the newly developed autorotation section.

* I did discover an issue with creating the "Enable missing sound notification options". For those that have already enabled this feature you may want to use the new feature in the "Oneshot" section ( X - button) and re-trip this tweak.

I need to thank the LG-Expo community for their input into this project along with my beta testers.
Dark, WarRaven, glownlow, Jug6ernaut, my own phone... not sure it will ever be the same (refused to do a hard reset throughout this project) and last but not least the guy how's phone I keep borrowing cause it has no registry edits... YET... Dude, guess you want your phone back again huh?

Please keep those newly found registry tricks coming and I'll keep updating the application when I've got time.

Enjoy!

Please note:
This application was written specifically for the LG Expo (USA) and IQ (CAN). I don't recommend installing it on any other device as this affects registry settings tailored for these LG devices. I highly recommend you do a full system backup prior to changing any settings in the registry just in case something goes wrong.

I've been toying with this idea since I got my IQ. Would anyone be interested in a tweaking program specific to our devices?

We keep finding registry tweaks and I'm wondering if we should combine them as they are found and make a single program with all registry edits imbedded into this app. Instead of running them as cab files or editing the registry manually we'd toggled them on and off by check box's within the app. It would not get any easier than that. This way you could enable or disable any setting without ever having to get down and dirty in the registry or by running multiple cabs. I'd be willing to program it but would need everyone's input as new tweaks are found to keep it up to date.

Just a thought...

I'll start compiling a list of all the reg. edits I already have and go from there. I'll probably use the WM 6.5 SDK just cause we can Smiley

I'm thinking of adding a section to make all the hidden gems (apps) we've found within the Windows directory available as shortcuts by the same process (check on/off). I'm also thinking it might be a good idea to have a master UNDO/RESET option in case you need to undo all the changes at once, short of having to do a hard reset.

Don't mind me, I'm just thinking out loud Smiley

If you guys can start rounding up the reg. files it be much appreciated. I'd prefer not getting them in CAB format but in either .reg or plain txt. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to make the application updatable in the future. My current thought is to have a separate data file to retain the settings and use the app. as a shell. I prefer not hard coding settings when possible as it limits the application. We're on the ground floor looking up so we'll see how it pans out.

I love this idea. Count me in. Here are two lists of tweaks I compiled. They are in .reg format.

Thanks Dark Smiley

The first step in all this is (my thought anyway) to have the app do a registry sweep and save all default settings. In the event of a reset/restore, use that first sweep to restore everything. Would eliminate doing a hard reset. I've been working on this part on and off today. So far so good.

The rest should be easier. I'm toying with having profile settings. The idea would be to save tweak settings by profile. Change profiles and instantly change multiple reg. tweaks, although I'm still playing with that one. Think I'll push to get it out there than we can play with it and make it better.

So many ideas...so little time Smiley

Ok, I've been messing with reading and changing registry settings for the past 2 days in .Net and figured I needed a break. I started laying out the menu with the registry changes and here's a sneak peek. The order has not been established yet and the wording isn't finalized. It at least give you guys an idea of where I'm going with his. Comments good or bad are appreciated.

I'm sure I've missed a few Reg. edits as I've been focused more on the design side of this thing (backend). I'll add them in as we find them.

Very sweet, make want to put a note* by the enable SMS feature as i believe its only the IQ version that can't just default back to it, please correct me if i'm wrong.

Looks superb friend, outstanding really, what more of a interface does one need?

Need a beta tester???  Wink

No brother, good work indeed.

Thanks WarRaven Smiley

Providing I don't have too much 'real' work this week I should have something by Wednesday...maybe sooner.
If we can figure out the difference between the Expo and the IQ, I could have the app read which version the device is and modify the list depending on the device. I should also have another IQ sometime tomorrow (One I've haven't modified yet)... I'll use that one to read y defaults as mine have been changed so much that I have no clue what the factory settings were anymore Smiley

Beta testers?....lol... Think this is one of those apps I'll test on that other IQ I'm getting my hands on... just in case something goes horribly wrong. Once it works fine then we can all go nuts with it... as Beta testers Wink

Oh.... I do have one strange issue.... Visual Studio 2008... can't seem to package the app!?!?... seems to be only related to WM apps. It's very strange. Gives me the '.exe' file but won't even give me the option to package it... in other words... I'm not getting the cab. Things can never be easy can they?...lol
Worst case I'll port it over the VS 2005 and package it there.

For the Registry issue, do a back up, hard reset, an use that Ceregedit an make a image of the stock registry, then restore your back up on the device, idk, a lot of twists, part of the game i guess lol.

I dont know if it has to be that complicated to ID the device, footnotes should work, most of the tweaks wouldn't do squat on the expo as their already in place for the most part anyways.

Got to absolutely love SPB an SPrite Back up software, well worth the money.

I have to agree with you, I've been using SPB backup since they created it. Saved me a tone of times.
The Device ID is not that hard to read in '.Net' but you might be right... just put "(IQ)" in the Threaded SMS line and be done with it... besides it would show that checkbox as being true as it first reads those registry setting to display there's current status anyway. Toggling it would then make that feature like the IQ...lol... all they'd have to do is re-toggle and they'd be back to where it was. Maybe we'll improve it in version 2 ...lol

...let's get this one out there first...lol

I agree. SPB Backup is one of the best investments I've made. The UI is looking good on this. Can't wait to see the finished product. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Dark,

I've got everything coded down to "Set .Net 3.5 as default" working. The app reads the current setting on opening and will change the reg. values up to this point. The next one "Enable missing sound..." is huge! Working on it tonight and the last two should be easy. The next step will be the 'undo' step. But that brings up a question...

Most of these settings don't exist prior to changing or adding them to the registry. Seeing as how the idea behind this app was to be able to toggle the setting on and off. What should I do with created registry settings?... delete them or disable them when possible?? And seeing has how the "Enable missing sound..." registry tweak is so large do I remove it as well (undo) or lock that one out of being undone??? .... NEED INPUT : )

Hmmm, No expert here, but i might suggest leaving new keys in place an disabling them.

They don't really interefere much with LG's interface other then to put options back in WM, so no harm no foul for the most part.

Though others should chip in imo.

Btw stellar idea an implementation so far Woodhole, great work.

Agreed. You should just leave them and just have them disabled. Although the missing sounds can't really be disabled. Once they are in the reg they will appear. Those may need to be deleted if someone want to turn them off.
