i was not sure where to post this but i was wondering if the finger print reader was good enough to scan a finger print and save it to look at it and save it like a CSI would
i would also like to have an app so you could log in to a site with the finger print reader like a password manager.
i dont like the slow lg fingerprint unlock program it would be nice to have a replacement

If you go to the web site from Authentec the folks that make the sensor, the only out put it produces is a binary out put based on readings from the sensor so that your fingerprints can not be captured. Just a code that represents the finger print it scanned.
From a safety stand point its a cool idea.
Hope that helps.
Though I would like to be able to assign other passwords to the scanner so I don't have to type them in anymore. That is an app I would like myself.

The only reason I even knew about Authentec is they are down the street from my house. It was in the papers here about their work on the Expo.
HTC had a phone a few years ago that had a similar scanner I think it was the Sedna or something like that.
I was hoping we could some how apply the fingerprint scanner to input passwords on other programs That would be cool.

TrueYou™ AuthenTec’s TrueYou technology takes advantage of each finger’s uniqueness and allows for the programming of different functions on a device based on which finger is used. This might include each finger launching a different application or being used to speed dial a phone number.
Seems a small step away from storing passwords, if a finger can start a program why cant it enter a password? Just a matter of finding out how.. Sounds like someone with more brains then me needs to explore the sensor's DLL, figure out its outputs and find a way to link that to opera/etc..

That was my thought. Though I would have expected that functionality to have been if the phone from Authentec to begin with.
Guess its time to do some snooping.

Not that this will work on the phones but Authentic works with a 3rd party application company called Omni Pass for computer systems. I actually work for a company called Motion Computing, and we have been using both the Authentic FPR and the Omni Pass software on our units for the past 6 years now. This is the type of software that would be nice to find a mobile version of(Update I have included a link below of a mobile version for Omni Pass) . A way to automatically log you in to specific sites and store passwords and user names using just your finger print. Ive include some reference links below for some fun afternoon reading http://www.motioncomputing.comhttp://www.softexinc.com/product.asp?product=omnipassme

yeah read into the mobile version a little more and it does not look like its written to be used with a FPR, but maybe a pin code instead?
I am actually checking with our contacts at Omnipass to see if they have anything in store for the future or any thing beta I can test with..
Will update the forum when i get some detials.

Update for anyone interested:
I have some emails out with a few different company's that design finger print software seeking either a mobile version, or even a beta mobile version for testing. It might take a week to get some good answers as to if we will have any mobile software that will allow us to hold passwords for websites or other programs on the phone.
If all goes well, we might get some beta software to plat with!
